To interested individuals (Post-Docs and Young Faculty).

The Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra (FPCE-UC) Portugal invites applications from rising and aspiring leaders in Cognitive Science and Neuroscience and Cognitive Computational Neuroscience for 2 tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level. These positions are part of a transformative ERA Chair grant CogBooster from the European Union to FPCE-UC led by Dr. Alfonso Caramazza. The goal of CogBooster is to implement strong and international lines of research in Cognitive Science/Neuroscience, so as to contribute to the ongoing renewal of the Psychological and Brain Sciences in Portugal over the next decade.

The project has recently led to the appointment of Jorge Almeida, Jason Fischer and Joana Carvalho as tenured Professors, and Alfonso Caramazza as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Coimbra.

Equal Employment Opportunity statement:

The University of Coimbra is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and has a Gender Equality Plan in place. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic global community at the University. We particularly encourage applications from women, and from under-represented groups in the University of Coimbra’s workforce and in the brain sciences.

Successful applicants should have an excellent record of research for their career level. To contribute to the mission of CogBooster and to the research and educational mission of FPCE-UC, they are expected to establish an active research program in any of the major cognitive areas, acquire external research funds, and contribute to teaching and mentoring.

The applicant will actively engage in research, teaching, and supervision in the field of the specific positions at FPCE-UC and its affiliated research center. Applicants may use different technical and methodological approaches to address their cognitive research questions, including, but not limited to, cognitive neuropsychological investigations, human neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, EEG, sEEG, etc), behavioral and cognitive approaches, and computational cognitive neuroscience.

Offer:

Positions are tenure-track and include social security and national pension plans, medical insurance, and all legally applicable benefits under Portuguese law. Salary depends on the level of appointment.

The Erasmus Center for Neuroeconomics (erim.eur.nl/neuroeconomics) seeks a highly motivated PhD student looking to study decision-making using neuroscience methods (fMRI or EEG). Strong applicants have backgrounds in (cognitive/social) psychology, (cognitive/social) neuroscience or neuroeconomics, and are looking to pursue careers as world-class academic researchers. At our Center, students define and execute their own projects in consultation with their advisers, and thus need creativity, self-direction, and a passion for scientific research.

The Erasmus Center for Neuroeconomics is hosted by the Marketing department at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), which ranks among the best in the world. Department members publish their research in top journals in marketing, psychology and neuroscience. They deeply care about open science practices (e.g., data sharing and open-source software), and frequently host seminars to encourage knowledge exchange. The group is diverse (in terms of research interests and cultural background), collaborative, and collegial.

Researchers at the Center for Neuroeconomics work on a wide range of topics in decision neuroscience such as understanding the neurological basis of emotions, social conformity, dishonesty, charitable giving, persuasive messaging, consumer judgments and predicting population-level outcomes from neural data. Projects of current PhDs in our Center focus on the role of narratives in the persuasive appeal of advertising, the fundamental processes underlying neuroforecasting, social credit scores, and emotional spill-over effects in advertising.

Some experience with EEG and/or fMRI data analysis is required for this position. Experience or interest in classification algorithms, prediction models, or multivariate approaches to EEG or fMRI data analyses is a definite plus. Experience with, or at least affinity for programming, particularly in Python (or otherwise Matlab or R) is a must.

For your application, we require a motivation letter, a CV, and the names of two references. It is not necessary to ask referents for letters at the application stage. It is also not necessary to have completed a GMAT or GRE for the initial submission.

Interested candidates can apply through the ERIM website (https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://tinyurl.com/4zmww7sf__;!!Mih3wA!DnnE7PCRtLVniA5Jpkh1s_elUnbfWZPTIoAPaRsYuTpLjB59r_PNTssOQ9k7iQEAkGEOcnxrR-Hk7uFDNHDL$ ). Application deadline January 15, 2025. For more information about this position, please check out the ERIM website and/or contact Maarten Boksem ([email protected]).

We are seeking an enthusiastic PhD student with a particular interest in understanding sensory mechanisms of human communication.

Task: The task of the successful candidate involves using high-resolution neuroimaging to test for predictive coding mechanisms in the human sensory pathway in typically developed populations as well as in populations with developmental dyslexia. The project is based on prior work of our group listed here.

The setting: TU Dresden is one of eleven German Universities of Excellence. The successful candidate will be based at the Chair of Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience. The Chair is part of ReDyslexia, which is a research consortium of neuroscientists and clinicians that have the aim (1) to better understand sensory pathway dysfunction in developmental dyslexia, and (2) to directly use this knowledge for improving treatment strategies. ReDyslexia includes studies in humans with developmental dyslexia as well as experiments in animal models. Experiments will be performed at the TUD Neuroimaging Centre (NIC). The NIC is equipped with a research-only MRI machine (Siemens 3T Prisma), MRI-compatible EEG, eye-tracking and noise-cancellation headphones, and a neurostimulation unit including TMS, tDCS, and tFUS. The experimental facilities are supported by experienced physics and IT staff. The TU Dresden Graduate Academy offers a comprehensive training programme and individual career advice for early career researchers. The Dresden-concept Welcome Centre facilitates the start in Dresden for international researchers.
