Graduate positions are available in the Biogeochemistry of Boreal Ecosystems Research Group (BBERG), led by Dr. Sue Ziegler, Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Boreal Biogeochemistry, at the Earth Sciences Department, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, St. John’s Campus.

Program: MSc and PhD in Earth Sciences
Start Dates: May 1 or September 1, 2025

### Research Focus:
The group explores high-latitude ecosystems and landscape responses to climate change, focusing on terrestrial-aquatic and river-marine interfaces. Key areas of opportunity include:
1. Soil Carbon Stocks: Developing predictive models for boreal forest mineral soil carbon distribution.
2. Terrestrial-Aquatic Carbon Fluxes: Predicting and evaluating controls on carbon export and balance.
3. Coastal Ecosystem Interactions: Bridging scientific, local, and Inuit knowledge to understand coastal watersheds.

### Candidate Profile:
- MSc Applicants: Background in natural sciences and ideally completed an undergraduate honors research thesis.
- PhD Applicants: MSc thesis in natural sciences and demonstrated research experience.
