Imprint of Massive Neutrinos on Persistent Homology (Morphology) of Large-Scale Structure
Mohammad Hossein Jalali Kanafi
Department of Physics, Shahid Beheshti University
Abstract:
The morphology of the cosmos provides valuable information about the structure of the cosmic web, which can be used for cosmological inferences. In this talk, I will discuss the capability of Persistent Homology (PH) as a morphological tool to investigate the impact of massive neutrinos on the Large-Scale Structure (LSS). PH naturally addresses the multi-scale topological characteristics of the LSS as a distribution of clusters, loops, and voids. Utilizing the Fisher forecast formalism, I will provide a quantitative assessment about the constraining power of some PH vectorizations to estimate the parameters of the $\nu \Lambda CDM$ model.

🇪🇸 Postdoctoral position in extragalactic radio astronomy 🇪🇸
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position of two years duration at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain) to work with Dr. Shane P. O'Sullivan on extragalactic radio surveys related to cosmic magnetism science.
The postdoctoral researcher will work with data from ongoing radio polarization surveys, such as the LOFAR Two-Metre Sky Survey and the ASKAP-POSSUM survey, to constrain the properties of cosmic magnetic fields across a wide range of physical scales and use the results to test models for their origin. They will also be involved in the preparation for future projects with the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope, which Spain is a full member of.
The successful candidate will become part of the Extragalactic Astrophysics and Astronomical Instrumentation group of UCM (GUAIX), as well as the Institute of Particle Physics and the Cosmos (IPARCOS). See https://guaix.ucm.es/home/science/cosmic-magnetic-fields for more details.
Applicants should have a PhD in Astrophysics and experience in radio astronomy.
Applications are especially encouraged from people from underrepresented groups.
Interested candidates should email their CV (including the names of two referees), a motivation letter (max. 1 page) and a summary of research accomplishments to date (max. 1 page) to [email protected] by 25 November 2024. The earliest start date will be mid-Feb 2025.

🇳🇱 PhD positions at the University of Amsterdam 🇳🇱
The Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy (API) at the University of Amsterdam invites applicants for PhD positions in astronomy and astrophysics. The positions are open to candidates from any country. The institute provides a stimulating, international environment in a city where English is a common language. Of our current PhD candidates, over 70% are foreign and over 40% are female. You execute a vigorous research program, under the supervision of one or more faculty members. Positions will be available in fields of research where the institute is active, including planet formation and exoplanets, stellar astrophysics, astrophysics of neutron stars and black holes, and the detection and characterization of radio counterparts of gravitational wave sources.

Non-Evapourable Getters Coating, a novel route to achieve ultra high vacuum
Title in Persian:
لایه نشانی جاذب های غیر تبخیری، مسیری جدید برای دستیابی به خلاء بسیار بالا
Abstract:
The search for an effective solution to the problem of pumping conductance-limited vacuum systems, as those for particle accelerators, lead, at the end of 1995, to the start of the development of Non-Evaporable Getters (NEG) thin film coatings at CERN. Coating the whole inner surface of a vacuum chamber, after dissolving the NEG oxide layer by heating (activation), transforms it from a source of
gas into a pump providing very high pumping speed per unit length. In this talk, we will present the NEG physics and also describe how discharge voltage, magnetic field strength, and pressure effect on the deposition rate.
