Today's Global Political Responses:
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi:
Though condemns the Hamas attacks of October 7 and that though “nobody in their right mind” would “belittle” the pain felt by Israel that day, the war in Gaza cannot be permitted to continue.
“The whole region in sinking in a sea of hatred that will define generations to come,”
The Arab countries were demanding an immediate ceasefire, a more dramatic action than the humanitarian pauses supported by the Biden administration, to allow for the delivery of food and other supplies and to enable time to secure the release of hostages.
“We don’t accept that this is self-defense. It cannot be justified under any pretext and it will not bring Israel security, it will not bring the region peace.”
Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani:
Called for an immediate ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Affirmed the continued efforts of the State of Qatar to mediate the release of the prisoners, pointing that the continued bombing doubles the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip and complicates securing their release.
Iranian parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf,
“We consider the criminal US a principal culprit in all these crimes”
The Hamas attack on Israel has caused “irreparable” intelligence and security damage to the Israeli state.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan:
“Netanyahu is no longer someone we can talk to. We erased him and threw him away,”
Turkey's foreign minister and intelligence chief would continue to talk to “the Israeli side” as well as Hamas and other Palestinian groups.
“The whole West, especially America, is currently on Israel’s side” and people “should not expect a fair attitude” from the European Union over Gaza.
“If Greece can be a guarantor country, England can be a guarantor country and Turkey is a guarantor country in Cyprus, why can’t there be a similar structure in Gaza?”
Announced Turkey's support for "initiatives that would bring Israel’s human rights violations and war crimes to the International Criminal Court."
The diplomatic adviser to the United Arab Emirates’ president, Anwar Gargash:
"If this crisis continues, especially the humanitiaran side, and if this crisis brings us back full circle to the old containment policy of pre-7 October, I think the American role here, forget right or wrong, but it will not be seen as effective,”
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
Accuses Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of siding with the Gaza-ruling terror group.
U.S. Department of State spokesperson Matt Miller:
“Secretary Blinken thanked the Prime Minister for his leadership in preventing Lebanon from being pulled into a war that the Lebanese people do not want, as well as his efforts with regional partners to pursue durable and sustainable peace in the region,”
U.S. secretary of state Antony Blinken:
Washington was worried about violence by extremist settlers in the West Bank.
Both Washington and Arab states believe the status quo of a Hamas-controlled Gaza cannot continue and that he has discussed with his Arab counterparts how to chart a better path forward towards a two-state solution.
A ceasefire in Israel’s military offensive in Gaza would leave Palestinian militant group Hamas in place and allow it to regroup and carry out similar attacks to the one on 7 October
German Vice Chancellor, Robert Habeck:
“Basically, Hamas must be destroyed because it is destroying the process of peace in the Middle East.”
Hamas’s October 7 attack “requires a necessary consequence from Israel.” “the Palestinians also have the right to their own state,” but adds that Hamas has no interest in such a solution.
Turkey has announced its decision to recall its ambassador to Israel, Sakir Ozkan Torunlar, for consultations.
This move comes as a response to Israel's rejection of a ceasefire in Gaza and is motivated by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza resulting from Israel's persistent attacks on civilians.
An Israeli drone launched a missile at the residence of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, in Gaza.
It is not clear if any of his family members were present during the attack. Ismail Haniyeh has been living in exile between Turkey and Qatar since 2019. The strike targeted a house in the Al-Shathi neighborhood in northern Gaza, and there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Ismail Haniyeh has been residing outside of the Gaza Strip. In a previous Israeli airstrike during the conflict, 14 family members of Haniyeh, including his brother and nephew, were reportedly killed in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood."
Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa announces $65 million in humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip as she condemns attacks on civilians and promises Japan’s continued support for a two-state solution to the conflict.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo has sent 51.5 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza, marking the first such effort since the Israel-Hamas conflict began. The aid, comprising medical equipment, food, blankets, tents, and more, was collected from both the government and Indonesian citizens through humanitarian agencies.
The assistance is being transported to el-Arish Airport in Egypt via two Hercules aircraft and an Airbus cargo plane. Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim-majority nation, has a history of supporting Palestinians and lacks formal diplomatic relations with Israel.
President Widodo emphasized that this action represents Indonesian solidarity and concern for humanity, given the unacceptable humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Hamas tried to sneak its fighters out of Gaza in ambulances
The list of severely injured individuals to be transferred from Gaza to Egypt for medical treatment was vetted by Egypt and the United States, which found that a third of the names on it were of Hamas fighters, the administration official says, adding that none of the 76 wounded Palestinians who were ultimately evacuated in ambulances out of Gaza were Hamas fighters.
