Questions Concerning the Fasts of Shawwāl
The Permanent Committee for Islamic Research and Fatāwá
If someone has missed some of the days of Ramaḍān, he should fast them first, then fast six days of Shawwāl, because he cannot follow the fast of Ramaḍān with six days of Shawwāl unless he has completed his Ramaḍān fast.
The Standing Committee of Major Scholars
Do the fasts have to be done immediately after Ramaḍān?
[Q]: ‘Should fasting the six days be done immediately after Ramaḍān, following the day of ’Eed or is it permissible to do it a few days after ’Eed in the month of Shawwāl or not?’
[A]: ‘‘These days do not have to be fasted immediately after ’Eedul-Fitr; it is permissible to start fasting them one or more days after ’Eed, and they may be done consecutively or separately during the month of Shawwāl, according to what is easier for a person. There is plenty of room for maneuver in this matter, and this is not obligatory, it is Sunnah. And Allāh is the Source of strength. May Allāh bless our Prophet Muḥammad and his Family and Companions and grant them peace.’’ 1
The Fasts of Shawwāl or the fasts of Ramaḍān?
[Q]: ‘If a person fasts six days of Shawwāl after Ramaḍān when he has not yet completed the Ramaḍān fast – because he did not fast ten days of Ramaḍān for a legitimate reason – will he have the same reward as a person who fasted all of Ramaḍān and followed it with six days of Shawwāl. Meaning, will he be like a person who fasted for a lifetime? Please explain to us, may Allāh reward you with good?’
[A]:‘‘The precise rewards for the deeds which people do for the sake of Allāh is something which is known only to Allāh. If a person seeks the reward from Allāh and strives to obey Him, his reward will not be lost, as Allāh says,
‘‘We shall not make the reward of anyone who does his (righteous) deeds in the most perfect manner to be lost.’’

The ruling concerning speaking in a language
other than Arabic
Question:
In our home, most of our conversation is in French and we rarely speak Arabic. So is using another language than Arabic prohibited?
Answer:
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon whom Allah sent as a mercy to the Worlds, upon his Family, his Companions and his Brothers until the Day of Resurrection:
The basic principle is that it is not permissible to imitate the Jews, the Christians and the A’âjim (non-Arabs) and it is an obligation to do the opposite of what they do, in accordance with several religious texts addressing this issue; and among these texts is to use their language and imitate their accent and their gestures while speaking their language as this indicates some affection and a hearty sympathy towards them. Indeed, the appearance is the mirror of what is hidden inside as Ibn Taymiya رحمه الله has stated.
However, apart from this basic rule, it is allowed to use their language when necessary and to learn the foreigner’s language and writing to benefit from their sciences and to translate them into Arabic to keep safe of their misdeeds and wickedness (evils) as stated by the Prophet صلّى الله عليه وسلّم when he said to Zayd Ibn Thâbit رصي الله عنه: “Do learn the Jews’ language, for I do not trust them about our book” (1).
Thus, it is worth pointing out that learning the foreigner’s language should be for the previously mentioned reasons, but to become a part of the Muslims life in their discussions and mails in all their way of life cannot be allowed at all. And to replace the Arabic language with a foreign language is tantamount to replacing the best by the lowest (less important); this would be a kind of allegiance to the disbelievers which is blameworthy according to the religious rules as stated by the Quranic texts concerning the principle of allegiance and disavowal which is the fruit of Tawhîd (Islamic Monotheism) and the firm bonds in Islam.
The perfect knowledge belongs to Allah عزَّ وجلَّ; and our last prayer is all the praises and thanks are to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, and prayers of Allah are to Muhammad, his Family, Companions and Brothers until the Day of Resurrection.

The Intended Meaning behind the Expression “Son of God” Mentioned in the Gospels
Shaykh Muḥammad Taqī al-Dīn al-Hilālī al-Maghribī;
In the language of the Torah and the Gospel everyone who is righteous and dutiful is referred to as “Son of God”. In the ninth verse from the fifth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew it is written:
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” [Matthew 5:9]
And in the very same chapter there is the following statement in verse forty-five:
“That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven…” [Matthew 5:45]
And in verse number forty-eight:
“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” [Matthew 5:48]
And in the first verse of the sixth chapter [we find]:
“…otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.”
——-
Commentary by Shaykh Rabīʿ ibn Hādī al-Madkhalī; “It should not be ruled out that referring to Allāh as ‘the Father’ and referring to mankind as ‘Sons of God’ may be from the fabrications of the Jews and the Christians and their distortions and alterations of the text of the Torah and the Gospel. And from the proof of this is Allāh’s rejection of this practice in His ﷻ statement:
وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَىٰ نَحْنُ أَبْنَاءُ اللَّهِ وَأَحِبَّاؤُهُ
‘The Jews and the Christians say: We are the children of God and His beloved ones.’ [Sūrah al-Māʾidah 5:18]
then Allāh ﷻ said in refutation of this claim:
‘Then say then why does He punish you for your sins? You are merely human beings from those who He created…’ [Sūrah al-Māʾidah 5:18]
And He the Exalted says:
وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ عُزَيْرٌ ابْنُ اللَّهِ وَقَالَتِ النَّصَارَى الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ اللَّهِ ۖ

The Pursuit of Laylatul Qadr
Shaikh ‘Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah) said: “Allaah has distinguished this month with Laylatul Qadr, regarding which Allaah, The Most High, revealed an entire Soorah pertaining to its virtue. He, The Most High, said:
((Indeed; We sent it [the Qur’aan] down in the Night of Al-Qadr [Decree]. And what will make you know what the Night of Al-Qadr [Decree] is? The Night of Al-Qadr [Decree] is better than a thousand months. The Angels and the Rooh [Jibreel] descend therein by permission of their Lord with every matter. Peace! It is until the appearance of dawn.)) (Al-Qadr: 1-5)
He, The Most High, said likewise:
((Indeed, We sent it [the Qur’aan] down on a blessed night. Verily, We are ever warning. Therein [that night] is decreed every matter of ordainment. A command from Us. Verily; We are ever sending [the Messengers]. As a Mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is The All-Hearing, The All-Knowing.)) (Ad-Dukhaan: 3-6)”[1]
The Shaikh (rahimahullaah) stated likewise: “Laylatul Qadr – in it the door is opened and the dearest are brought near and the discourse is heard and the reply is given and for those who apply themselves to endeavour; there is written within it an immense reward. Laylatul Qadr is better than a thousand months, so strive hard, may Allaah have mercy upon you in its pursuit. For this is the time for pursuit, and beware of negligence, for in negligence there is ruin.”[2]
Standing in Prayer on Laylatul Qadr
On the authority of Abu Hurairah (radhiyallaahu ‘anhu) who said that the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said:
مَن قَامَ لَيْلَةَ القَدْرِ إيمَانًا واحْتِسَابًا، غُفِرَ له ما تَقَدَّمَ مِن ذَنْبِهِ
((Whoever stands [in prayer] in Laylatul Qadr out of true faith and seeking reward, then his previous sins will be forgiven for him.))[3]

Concerning the Name of Allah Al-Khâliq (The Creator)
Question:
Is the name “Al-Khâliq” (The Creator) among the specific names of Allah عزَّ وجلَّ? And what is the meaning of Allah’s word:
﴿الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِِثلُهَا فِي البِلاَدِ﴾ [الفجر: 8].
The meaning of the verse:
﴾The like of which were not created in the land?﴿ [Al-Fajr (The Break of Day or The Dawn):8].
Answer:
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon whom Allah sent as a mercy to the Worlds, upon his Family, his Companions and his Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.
The Name “Al-Khâliq” (The Creator) is specific to Allah عزَّ وجلَّ. So, it is forbidden to name people by Allah’s Names which are specific to Him, except by adding the word `Abd (i.e. servant), because they are not convenient but to Him, Like Er-Rahmân (The Most Beneficent), El-Qudûs (The Holy) and El-Khâliq, in addition to the other names such as Shâhanshâh(1), or the judge of the judges and the like.
As for Allah’s word:
﴿الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِِثلُهَا فِي البِلاَدِ﴾ [الفجر: 8].
The meaning of the verse:
﴾The like of which were not created in the land?﴿ [Al-Fajr (The Break of Day or The Dawn): 8], it means that tribe from` Ad Al-Ûla, which is “Iram”, that has high buildings and whose people were living in Al-Ahqâf, which is situated between Oman and Hadhramaut. Allah عزَّ وجلَّ has not ever created people that are stronger than them or who had huge bodies like them.
The perfect knowledge belongs to Allah سبحانه وتعالى. Our last prayer is all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon our Prophet, his Family, his Companions and his Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.

The ruling regarding the garment which has an erased emblem of disbelief
The question:
What is the ruling concerning wearing shoes which contain an emblem of a disbelieving dogma after erasing it? And may Allah reward you with good.
The answer:
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon whom Allah sent as a mercy to the Worlds, upon his Family, his Companions and his Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.
If the shoes represent in themselves a known emblem of disbelief like the shoes which are specific to the church or other temples of disbelief, it will not be then permissible to wear them even after obliterating what they contain (as sign) or by erasing a part of them, because effacing does not change their nature. However, if the shoes bear an invalid doctrinal emblem, and they are not in themselves an emblem, then the fact of defacing their appearance or erasing them totally, makes them permissible to wear without any forbiddance, in accordance with the jurisprudential rule which stipulates that: “If the cause of forbiddance disappears, the forbidden thing disappears”.
The perfect knowledge belongs to Allah عزَّ وجلَّ. Our last prayer is all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon our Prophet, his Family, his Companions and Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.
Reward for reviving the Sunnah

The Night of the Jinn – Do Not Cross This Line Ibn Mas’ud!
The reason for the revelation of this verse, as reported by Saʿīd bin Jubaīr from Ibn ʿAbbās;
“The Prophet ﷺ set out with a group of his Companions towards the market of Ukāż, passing by al-Nakhla. The devils had been prevented from eavesdropping from the Heavens, and shooting stars were sent down upon them. They said to their people, “There is a barrier between us and news from the Heavens.” The people replied, “That is because of a worldly occurrence.” it was narrated they were speaking to Iblis, and Iblis advised them to; “Traverse the East and the West of the earth so that you may know what has occurred.” Then a group of them passed Tihama and saw the Prophet praying Fajr with his Companions at the Valley of al-Nakhla, reciting the Qur’ān. They said: “By Allah! This is what has happened. This is what has caused a barrier between us and news from the Heavens.” They returned to their people informing them of this, saying; ‘People! We have heard a wondrous Qur’ān that gives guidance to the right path, and we have come to believe it. We shall never set up partners with our Lord.’
It was said that these were the Jinns from the tribe of Nasībīn. They gathered together with Iblis and said, ‘Something has occurred on earth so inform us about this event.’ The leaders and most noble of the Jinn were then sent to Tihama, near Yemen. They found the Prophet praying the morning prayer near al-Nakhla, and heard him reciting the Qur’ān. When they approached him, they said, ‘Listen.’
