*? CHAPTER: [REGARDING THE ONE] WHO LIES IN HIS SPEECH TO AMUSE BY IT PEOPLE***

¤ Bahz ibn Ḥakīm narrated from his father who narrated from his grandfather (i.e Muʿāwiyah ibn Ḥaydah – raḍiyy Aḷḷāhu ʿanhu –) that he heard the Messenger of Aḷḷāh – ṣallAḷḷāhu ʿalayhi wa sallama – say: «Woe to the one who relates things and lies; so that people laugh with him. Woe to him! Woe to him!»¹

¤ ʾAbū Hurayrah – raḍiyy Aḷḷāhu ʿanhu – narrated that the Messenger of Aḷḷāh – ṣallAḷḷāhu ʿalayhi wa sallama – said: «Verily the servant sometimes speaks a word not saying it except to make the people laugh by it, [but] he falls further than the distance between the heaven and the earth because of it. And verily he stumbles harder because of his tongue than he does because of his feet.»²

¤ ʾAbū Hurayrah – raḍiyy Aḷḷāhu ʿanhu – narrated that the Prophet – ṣallAḷḷāhu ʿalayhi wa sallama – said: «It is sufficient for the man as a sin to repeat everything he hears.»³

¤ Qays ibn ʾAbiyy Ḥāzim narrated that he heard ʾAbū Bakr – raḍiyy Aḷḷāhu ʿanhu – say: «Beware of lies! For verily lies deviate from ʾĪmān.»⁴

¤ ʾIbn ʿUmar – raḍiyy Aḷḷāhu ʿanhu – narrated that the Messenger of Aḷḷāh – ṣallAḷḷāhu ʿalayhi wa sallama – said: «Verily the traitor will have a banner raised for him on the Day of Rising when people gather from the first and the last, thus it will be said, "This is the treachery of Fulān ibn Fulān (i.e so and-so, son of so-and-so).."»⁵
