Book launching ceremony
ASTU Community Engagement Office and Culture and Tourism Office of East Shoa Zone organized an ethnographic book launching ceremony at Dalol Hotel in Adama city. The book was launched in a grand ceremony attended by representatives of Adama Science and Technology University, delegates of East Shawa administration and members of Karayu community as well as other invited guests.
The book is titled The Karayu Oromo Gadaa system
.The authors are Mr. Ginbar Negera (PhD candidate) and Dr. Amenu Oljra, from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The book presents the lifestyle, culture and tradition of the Karayu Oromo. It also subsumes socio-economic and political values of the Karayu. The book explores the history of the Oromo, the form and organization of the Gada system, as well as historical places and culture of the Karayu.
The book was officially opened for reading by Dr. Dereje Regasa, Dean of Community Engagement Directorate of ASTU, Mr. Guta Gada, Deputy Administrator of East Shewa Zone Administration, and Mrs. Sumaya, Usman Head of Culture and Tourism Office of East Shewa Zone.
Mr. Guta Gada, the Deputy Administrator of East Shewa Zone Administration, noted that the Karayu have played a great role in preserving the Gada System and the culture of the Oromo people. Mr. Guta added that the launching of the book that explores the Karayu Oromo Gada system and lifestyle will help to preserve and transmit the history of the Karayu community to the next generation, and will allow the community to play a positive role in the process of nation building. Mr. Guta also expressed his appreciation to ASTU for sponsoring the book.

Adama Science and Technology University Hosts Major Programming Contest
Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) held the Ethiopian Collegiate Programming Contest (ECPC) in partnership with the African Collegiate Programming Contest (ACPC) and the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). This event was meant to bring together university students and enhance their programming skills, algorithmic thinking, and teamwork.
Participants were selected from various Technology and Engineering programs, representing universities such as ASTU, Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU), Addis Ababa University (AAU), Arsi University (AU), Wollo University (WU), and HiLCoE, a private college specializing in computer Science and Technology. Out of 71 teams competing, ASTU fielded 30 teams, nearly half of the total participants.
Mr. Desta Zerihun, chief coordinator of the program representing ASTUCollegiate Programming Contest, noted that the contest not only fosters programming talent but also plays a significant role in Ethiopia's digital transformation. The top teams will advance to the ACPC and ICPC finals, showcasing their skills on a larger stage. The competition lasted five intense hours, testing the participants' problem-solving abilities under pressure.
This event marks a significant step in promoting programming education and collaboration among students in Ethiopia.

ASTU Cities Alliance Project Office organizes dialogue on, “Investment & Decent Work in Secondary Cities: Adama & Secondary Cities in focus”
The participants of the dialogue are drawn from Oromia investment, bureau, Cities’ Forum, Industry parks, municipalities, zonal and cities investment offices, entrepreneurship development centsers, women, youth & children affairs offices. On the occasion Dr. Lema Beressa, Vice president for Research & Technology Transfer made the opening speech by welcoming the participants. Dr. Lema highlighted the numerous successful consultancy services provided by ASTU thus far. He noted that Cities Alliances project is one of the successful undertakings of ASTU.
Four presenters made lively presentations on issues pertaining to decent work, the challenges and opportunities pertaining to creating conducive working environment and the status of job creation. The presenters raised a number of thought provoking questions. The dialogue session was very lively in which the status of work and workers' rights and responsibilities were discussed in detail as input for industries and workers’ associations.
