EIP-7212 precompile for SGX's attestations can be used for Multi-Prover Rollups or Private Smart Contracts on L1 or by TEE builders (Trusted Execution environment) Rollups or any kind of coprocessors need proof mechanisms to prove that off-chain computation is correct and there's no fraud. These proof mechanisms are called Integrity Proofs. These proofs help to remove the need for trust in the output of a program. **There are 5 examples of Integrity Proofs:
A) Naive Replay: Everyone runs the same program under the same conditions, so we can be sure that computation is correct.
B) Trusted Execution Environments: A specific hardware designed not to reveal data to the operator. C) Reputation-based integrity: In this type, we trust people to run the programs without fraud.
D) Fraud Proofs: Prove the invalidity of any program. TEE is basically a specific hardware that no one can access internally and cannot change the program inside. There is an assumption that TEE is not compromised, or if there is a backdoor, the operator is not acting maliciously.
E) Zero Knowledge Proofs: Prove the validity of any program with mathematical proofs. what is SGX? it is a type of TEE designed by Intel, allowing developers to build specific programs & applications that need computational integrity, such as building bridges (e.g., Avalanche Bridge - they're not OS), multi-prover rollups, and protecting from MEV (SUAVE). And thanks to SGX, we can build third-party attestation services to make these SGX's verifiable on-chain, but we have a limitation: the only curve SGX's attestation service supports is P-256, which is not natively supported on Ethereum. The EIP-7212 precompile is so helpful for smart contract wallets because it allows cheap and secure verification for Passkeys and Webauthn, it is also helpful for verifying DNSSEC signatures onchain.** @web3privacy1
