In summary, one's experiences, deeds, attitude during their life help shape their interface with the afterlife.

In ancestral times, inexplicable natural occurrences were symbolically woven into daily life and the transition from the physical world — they were viewed not just as heavenly miracles, but as part of the world’s intricate fabric, shaping both existence and departure.
Dievturība offers solace through a focus on virtuous living and familial bonds. It envisions an afterlife shaped by individual experiences, devoid of eternal punishments or rewards & rooted in the interconnectedness of life and the enduring essence of the soul.

Throughout history, humans have sought continuity beyond death, a link to an “otherworld.” This connection, termed velis, bridges the living and the departed. Memories of the deceased persist among the living, fostering a sense of continuation.
Though brain activity ceases upon death, the thoughts and energy waves generated endure, gradually dissipating. While not entirely comprehended, this hints at a form of human "immortality", or rather "eternity".

Happy "Lieldiena(s)" (Easter, lit. 'Great Day(s)')! ????

Lieldienas rītā
Sarkana Saule;
Māršiņas villanei
Sarkanas bārkstis.

On Easter morning,
A crimson Sun;
Dear Māra's shawl
Has red fringes.

The day has grown longer than the night! The Sun blesses us all: the fairly universal Easter tradition of eggs symbolizing the Sun is also present in Latvia.
An ancient Latvian folktale tells that Dievs ("God") was born in Winter Solstice, but that in Easter his baby cradle was hung, so, in honor of that, comes the tradition of swinging in a swingset.

Today is the 132nd birthday of artist, archaeologist, visionary, and founder of the 'Dievturi' movement, ERNESTS BRASTIŅŠ. ???

"I believe that Latvianness has no end, no boundaries, that there can never be too much 'Latvianhood'. That is why I hold true that no word proclaiming an ever Latvian Latvia should be rejected. Therefore I let my calls for the sake of an all the more Latvian Latvia, resound once again."

Ej ar Dievu, metenīti,
Ar to savu slokatnīti;
Atnāks mūsu Lieldieniņa
Ar balto piena rausi.
D. 32213
Go with God, li'l Metenis,
With your little meat pie;
Our Great Day (Equinox, Easter) will come soon,
With her white milk pie.

It is the time of **Meteņi**. …

It is the time of Meteņi. It is a festival in honor of the imminent Spring,
Meteņi could be considered the traditional Latvian 'New Year's Eve', as hinted by its traditions and name.
In Latvian one of the meanings of 'mets' is 'time', 'season' ('laikmets' means era), and 'metai' in Lithuanian means 'year'.

The rites and festivities are based around 'chasing' Winter away in the form of the divine entity Metenis, and waiting for Spring in the form of Equinox.

Meteņi is also the end of the mummery and masking cycle, starting in late Autumn, and ending in late Winter. ????

Ap Meteni slaidi laižu,

Ap Meteni slaidi laižu,
Lai liniņi gari aug,
Ap Lieldienu šūpojos,
Lai telītes barojas

A bright Winter Solstice and fruitful new year to you all! ☀️??

Paldies saku Dieviņam,
Nu atnāca ziemas svētki;
Dievs lai dod veselibu
Lieldieniņu sagaidīt.

To dear God I give my thanks,
The Winter Feast is here at last;
May God grant health to me
To await Spring Equinox.
