Aimee Eischen & Bianca Roland // Paseo Photofest — The Paseo Arts District https://www.thepaseo.org/pacc-calendar/2021/march/march-show-zd7jp-2g43w
I made some pretty big purchases for my art business this year, and I'm still in the black. My iPad was my biggest expense, but I also bought shelving for my studio as well as a canopy and a couple small folding tables for markets.
This is definitely my best year so far, profit-wise.
I'm hoping I'll get invited for another project soon!
I've been in a little bit of a slump creatively this week. I've just got a lot going on, and I haven't felt terribly motivated to be creative.
But it's totally ok. I go through slumps from time to time, and I'm not afraid of them at all. It's part of the process. I never rush it, and I always know the inspiration will be there when it's time for me to go back to work.
I do think I'll probably put in some creative time this weekend. Maybe I'll pick up one of my unfinished projects. I have a bunch of them.
I started this piece in December for my performance at Factory Obscura, but I had to put it aside for a little while to work on the installation. I've had some time over the last couple of weekends, and I'm glad I finally finished it.
That was a pretty successful market. I made some money. I sold some stuff that was otherwise just collecting dust at my house. I added a bunch of new people to my email list. At the end, I consigned some of my art to be sold in the Factory Obscura gift shop.
The weather was perfect. A huge improvement over the last market I did.
I really enjoyed it. It was a super fun people watching experience too, and I had some really nice interactions today.
I'm in this really weird place right now where I'm tired of making art, but I also really want to make art.
I'm ready for some variety, I think. The project I'm currently working on for Factory Obscura has me locked in to basically one material (for now) and repeating the same process over and over. It gets to be very assembly line from time to time.
I am not complaining AT ALL. I am so grateful for the opportunity to get to do this project. I am recognizing something tricky about how my brain works.
My goal is to be a full-time artist. Occasionally you'll hear someone say that you shouldn't turn your passion into a job because it will cause you to hate it.
I don't think I could ever hate art, but I do want to be conscious about how various parts of the creation process affect my energy. I want to put systems in place to help me when I start to get restless with a project. I haven't figured out what that should be.
I wish I had time to garden. I actually think that would help.
