The last part that Paul talks about is prayer. We often see the other parts as good, but we forget that God has also given us prayer as part of the armor. We all know that prayer is important, we know that prayer is talking to God. The Word teaches us a lot about prayer, the question is whether we listen to what God wants to tell us. God makes clear to us through the Word the power of prayer. Some examples of things the Word says about prayer and the role of prayer in the life of the Christian:
• God hears our prayers (1 Kings 9:3)
• When we don't know what to pray, the Holy Spirit prays for and through us (Romans 8:26)
• We may ask God whatever is on our hearts (Philippians 4:6-7)
• We should pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
• We are to ask for prayer from fellow Christians (1 Thessalonians 5:25)
• We should pray consciously (1 Corinthians 14:15)
• God hears our prayers if we pray according to His will (1 John 5:14)
Prayer is really very big, very strong, very important.
If you already know Him, know how much God has forgiven you. Realize that you were previously darkness and now walk in His light. Thank Him for Who He is and what He has done. Lay down your life with Him, give Him your whole life. Serve Him, love Him as He deserves.

For the Christian, the sword is God's Word. When Jesus was tempted in Luke 4, He went to war against Satan with God's Word in His hand. Jesus resisted the temptations that came to Him by quoting God's Word to Satan. As a human being, Jesus did not have the power to defeat satan Himself, He needed the power of God through His Word. That's just how things are for us. We must have the power of God to resist and defeat the enemy and his temptations in our daily battle.

Satan knows this, so he will do what he did to Jesus: quote the Word to us. He will twist things, take things out of context, omit words, or use verses that don't apply to us. It is so important then that we know what God's Word says, that we know what He did say, or else we will fall for the words of the enemy.

Get to know God's Word better every day. Read your Bible, study your Bible, memorize parts of the Bible. Be filled with the true Word of God so that you can recognize the false.

A helmet is very important in battle, because you literally cannot live without a head. As a Christian it is also very important to protect your head. 1 Thessalonians 5:8 teaches that the helmet we wear, “the hope of salvation.” That is what should protect our head, the hope of eternity with God, in heaven.
What Satan is good at is to discourage the Christian. We get discouraged about our salvation, whether God can use us, whether God really loves us, whether we have now lost it, etc. It is so important then that we know that we are saved, that no one will take us out of the hand of God can steal (John 10:28). In order to wear this helmet, we must start to think as God wants us to. We have to see that God prescribes what logic is, so that our human thinking falls short. We need God's Word for that. Our minds must be reformed by God's Word, by His will. We've got so many false reasonings to break down, so many things in our minds that don't line up with God's Word. Therefore, we must do what Paul says in 2 Timothy 2:15, be diligent in the Word of God. We must read the Bible, study it, we must invest time and energy in it. Get to know the Bible, memorize Bible verses. Learn to study in the Word of God, there are so many resources today to do that.
We all need God's Word to rule God's will in our minds so that we will think and do what He says.
