Happy Fathers Day!

A family in my community has fallen on hard times. Heather and Eric are long time friends of mine who are just wonderful folks. They come to every event, travel very far and always give 100%.

They're the types of folks who stay late to help with the dishes, aid organizing events and always have an eye out on the children.

I've had the pleasure of having their family to my home and grow closer to them over the last year. Their daughter and my daughter are two peas in a pod. They're going to be best friends.

Well, Heather has recently learned that she has breast cancer. They have a long and expensive road ahead in order to manage this turmoil.

They're the best of heathens. True friends and immensely valuable additions to our growing community.

Many other communities give lip service to showing solidarity. But when it comes time to show up or pull out their wallets they reveal how fake they are.

Our folk are different. Touch one of us, you touch all of us. One of us falls, we are lifted with the strength of many.

With healing hands, forevermore.

You'll often hear people say "The world is an ugly place. A cruel place. It's unkind." and recently I had my fill of this drivel. This world, our world, is beautiful. Can it be cruel? Of course. Can it be unkind? Naturally. But it's beautiful. Adversity is a beautiful thing that when viewed from the correct mindset will reveal to you just how beautiful the world really is. Ugly people commit ugly acts and sometimes even the beautiful commit ugly acts, often leading them to join the ranks of the ugly and the sour-faced who can't help but spit vitriol and venom at whatever dares to be better than them.

If you think this world is so ugly, people so unkind, and many ugly acts being committed, then put your money where your mouth is. Do beautiful things. Do kind things for your folk. "Be the difference you want to see" as tired as that advice is anymore. You may think it's only a small thing or that it's not gonna work, but you won't know unless you do it. Every small act beautifies the world bit by bit and your kindness will pay off. You will inspire others to try and be better too.

Naturally you have to be sure to do good for the right people. Some people are just basically rotten and no amount of kindness on your part will be enough for them. There's a difference between being kind and being a doormat, and doormats attract the worst kind of people. Do right for the right people, your people in particular, and you can make the world (or at least your corner of it) that much more beautiful and beauty spreads.

Quit bitching and do right by the right people if you want to see the world a better place.
