As a veteran and a patriot, I’m deeply concerned about the calls by some, for the killing of public officials, after Jacobin-style mock trials.

Memorial Day was first dedicated in 1868 to remember the Americans who killed each other in our nation’s first Civil War. We have been blessed in our lifetime to never face the evil of brother fighting brother, father killing son, in a bloody effort to preserve our nation.

So many countries have recently devolved into violent revolutions, and in every case, those nations become shells of their former glory, and were dominated by outside forces, who care not about their people or legacy, but rather, the pillaging and enslavement of a weakened prey.

Why we need to be wary of these dangerous voices, trying to seduce others into a spirit of murder, is far more insidious than you may think.

In China, between 1956 and 1957, the Communist Party encouraged citizens to openly criticize and even publicly attack the embattled government of Mao Zedong. It was called the Hundred Flowers campaign, and like todays America, people were told to air their frustrations as part of their “freedom of speech”, that was, until the government rounded up all those who inadvertently marked themselves as a threat after trusting their frustrations would be respected. They were taken to re-education camps and executed en masse, as their voices of concern were turned into shrieks of torture.

If today’s administration were following the example of the Marxists of the past, they would recruit and allow thought leaders with wide conservative reach to tout ideas of unbridled bloodshed, disguised as extreme accountability, to lure unsuspecting countrymen into prematurely ending their life and their legacy.

Be wary of a modern Hundred Flowers movement, and use extreme discernment when joining calls for violent final solutions to temporary political turmoil.

It may seem that we can’t vote our way out of this hell we have found ourselves in, but we certainly won’t kill our way to victory. Stay the course brothers and sisters, trust Jesus Christ, and be a peacemaker amid the chaos.
