A protective cupola is being built above the spent nuclear fuel storage facility alongside the Zaporozhskaya nuclear power plant on the orders of the Russian management of the plant, to protect them from the shrapnel, shells and drone attacks of Ukrainian army.

The storage facility was built after 1991, when the station was operated by newly independent Ukraine. It wouldn’t be acceptable under the Soviet nuclear security standards to have it on the surface.

Spent fuel storage is one of the vulnerable points of the plant. If breached, spent fuel containers can spread still radioactive nuclear waste in the vecinity. #context

"Come to Daddy, bitches” were the last words of the pilot of a Wagner PMC’s SU-24M who, when his aircraft was hit by a MANPAD, chosen to crash the aircraft in flames onto the Ukrainian column over ejecting. These were the circumstances of the heroic act of Alexander Antonov, the pilot, and the navigator Vladimir Nikishin on December, 2nd.

The plane was tasked with attacking a formation of advancing Ukrainian armored vehicles seriously threatening the positions of the PMC near Bakhmut. The target was several kilometers beyond the frontline, and the crew assumed the task, understanding the risks in question.

When approaching the target, the plane was hit by a MANPAD missile. The ground observation post of one of the Wagners assault detachments seen the burning plane. Seconds after, the last words of the pilots were heard: “Come to Daddy, bitches”. Ukrainian advance was halted, and positions were saved.

Antonov’s crew repeated the act of Nikolay Gastello, the Soviet bomber pilot of 1941, who crashed his bomber on fire on the German formations.

Note the long running story in Nikolayev, where Ukrainian administration keeps telling the populace that Russians are out of missiles and repurposed the S-300 to fire on the ground targets to hide the fact that their own air defense missiles fall on the city, causing more civilian victims than Russians ever intended to inflict. #context
