#Benefits Devote yourself to Allaah **

? Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (May Allah have mercy on him) said -:

"If in the morning and in the evening the slave becomes concerned with none other than Allah alone - Allah سبحانه وتعالى will carry all his needs, and will carry (on behalf of him) what worries him and will empty his heart to love HIM, and his tongue to remember HIM, and his limbs to obey HIM, but if in the morning and in the evening the slave his concern(worry) is the dunya - Allah makes him carry his worries ، his distress, and his troubles , and turns all of it to himself, so he distracts(busies) his heart away from his love( for Allaah) towards the love of creation, and his tongue away from remembering HIM towards the remembrance of them(of the creation) , and his limbs away from his obedience by serving others and their works, he toils(struggles) the toil(struggle) of a wild animal in the service of others, like a pair of bellows* which blows his belly and squeezes his ribs for the benefit of others."

regularly and also make our children fast. We used to make toys of wool for the children and if anyone of them cried for, he was given those toys till it was the time of the breaking of the fast."
?** Transmitted by Al Bukhari and Muslim

VIOLATING THE SACREDNESS OF THIS MONTH BY COMMITTING SINS IS GREATER IN EVIL & CRIME,
For Allah's statement:

"Verily, the number of months with Allah is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are Sacred, (i.e. the 1st, the 7th, the 11th and the 12th months of the Islamic calendar). That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein."

?️IMAAM IBNU KATHEER رحمه الله said in his TAFSEER:

(so wrong not yourselves therein) during these Sacred Months, for sin in them is worse than sin in other months.
Likewise, sins in the Sacred City are written multiplied,
Allah says:
﴾(...and whoever inclines to evil actions therein (in Makkah) or to do wrong, him We shall cause to taste from a painful torment)﴿22:25

Similarly, sin in general is worse during the Sacred Months, Ali bin Abi Talhah narrated that Ibn****Abbas said, Allah's statement,
(Verily, the number of months with Allah...), is connected to
(so wrong not yourselves therein), "In all (twelve) months. Allah then chose four out of these months and made them sacred, emphasizing their sanctity, making sinning in them greater, in addition to, multiplying rewards of righteous deeds during them.''

Qatadah said about Allah's statement,
(so wrong not yourselves therein), "Injustice during the Sacred Months is worse and graver than injustice in other months. Verily, injustice is always wrong, but Allah makes things graver than others as He will'' end of the speach Ibnu katheer رحمه الله.

?AMONG THE SIGNIFICANCE OF 'ASHURA: THE KA'BAH USED TO BE COVERED ON THAT DAY

Narrated Aisha (Allah be pleased with her):
The people used to fast on 'Ashura (the tenth day of the month of Muharram) before the fasting of Ramadan was made obligatory. And on that day the Kaba used to be covered with a cover...

'Ashura' (i.e. the tenth of Muharram) was a day on which the tribe of Quraish used to fast in the preislamic period of ignorance. The Prophet (ﷺ) also used to fast on this day. So when he migrated to Medina, he fasted on it and ordered (the Muslims) to fast on it. When the fasting of Ramadan was enjoined, it became optional for the people to fast or not to fast on the day of 'Ashura.
?** Transmitted by Al Bukhari and Muslim

Abdullah ibnu 'Umar (Allah be pleased with him) reported that (the Arabs of) pre-Islamic days used to observe fast on the day of Ashura and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) observed it and the Muslims too (observed it) before fasting in Ramadan became obligatory. But when it became obligatory, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
'Ashura is one of the days of Allah, so he who wished should observe fast and he who wished otherwise should abandon it.
? Transmitted by Al Bukhari and Muslim

?FOUR STAGES OF THE MESSENGER (ﷺ) IN FASTING 'ASHURA

The above mentioned two Hadeeth of `Aisha & Abdullah ibnu 'Umar (Allah be pleased with them) include three Stages:

1️⃣He (ﷺ) used to fast it in Makkah before Hijrah without ordering others.

2️⃣After Hijrah he (ﷺ) fasted it and ordered others to fast it compulsorily.

3️⃣After fasting of Ramadan was prescribed, he (ﷺ) made it volunteer, and the obligation was abrogated.

4️⃣The fourth stage: his wish and determination (ﷺ) to fast the ninth day along with the tenth in order to oppose the fast of the Jews and the Christians, as mentioned in the Hadeeth of Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with him):

"that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) fasted on the day of 'Ashura and commanded that it should he observed as a fast, they (his Companions) said to him:
Messenger of Allah, it is a day which the Jews and Christians hold in high esteem. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "When the next year comes, Allah willing, we would observe fast on the 9th",
But the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) died before the advent of the next year.
? Transmitted by Muslim

In another narration:
"If I live till the next (year), I would definitely observe fast on the 9th"
? Transmitted by Muslim

Also it is confirmed from the statement of Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) that he said:
(Observe fast on the 9th and tenth, and oppose the Jews by doing so)

? Transmitted by AbdurRazzaaq & and alBayhaqi with an authentic chain of narration.

?THE WISDOM BEHIND FASTING 'ASHURA

Ibnu 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) arrived in Medina and found the Jews observing fast on the day of 'Ashura. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to them:
What is the (significance) of this day that you observe fast on it? They said: It is the day of great (significance) when Allah delivered Moses and his people, and drowned the Pharaoh and his people, and Moses observed fast out of gratitude and we also observe it. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: We have more right, and we have a closer connection with Moses than you have; so Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) observed fast (on the day of 'Ashura), and gave orders that it should be observed.
? Transmitted by Al Bukhari and Muslim

?THE GREAT REWARD FOR FASTING 'ASHURA

Abu Qatadah (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said:
"And I seek from Allah that fasting on the day of Ashura may atone for the sins of the preceding year."
? Transmitted by Muslim

In another narration:
He (ﷺ) was asked about fasting on the day of 'Ashura (10th of Muharram), whereupon be said: "It expiates the sins of the preceding year."
? Transmitted by Muslim

?TRAINING THE CHILDREN UPON FASTING ASHURA AND OTHER DAYS, IS FROM GUIDANCE OF THE SALAF

Narrated Ar-Rubi' bint Mu'awwidh (Allah be pleased with her):
"The Prophet (ﷺ) sent a messenger to the village of the Ansar in the morning of the day of 'Ashura' (10th of Muharram) to announce: 'Whoever has eaten something should not eat but complete the fast, and whoever is observing the fast should complete it.' "She further said, "Since then we used to fast on that day**

**?VIRTUES & DEEDS OF THE SACRED MONTH MUHARRAM & 'ASHURA DAY?*
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Allah subhanah said:

"Verily, the number of months with Allah is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are Sacred, (i.e. the 1st, the 7th, the 11th and the 12th months of the Islamic calendar). That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein."

Narrated Abu Bakra (Allah be pleased with him):
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Time has come back to its original state which it had when Allah created the Heavens and the Earth; the year is twelve months, four of which are sacred. Three of them are in succession; Dhul-Qa'da, Dhul-Hijja and Al-Muharram, and (the fourth being) Rajab Mudar (named after the tribe of Mudar as they used to respect this month) which stands between Jumad (ath-thani) and Sha'ban."
? Transmitted by Al Bukhari and Muslim

?️IMAAM IBNU KATHEER رحمه الله said in his TAFSEER:

" In a small book collected by Shaykh Alam ad-Din As-Sakhawi... he mentioned**that Muharram is so named because it is a sacred month. *To me, it was so named to emphasize its sacredness. This is because the Arabs would switch it around. One year they would say it was a sacred month, the following year they would say that it was not.
Allah said,
(of them four are sacred). The Arabs used to consider these months sacred during the time of Jahiliyyah, except for a group of them called Al-Basl, who held eight months of the year to be sacred as way of exaggeration in religion…..

The four Sacred Months were made four, three in succession and one alone, so that the Hajj and Umrah are performed with ease. Dhul-Qadah, the month before the Hajj month, was made sacred because they refrained from fighting during that month. Dhul-Hijjah, the next month, was made sacred because it is the month of Hajj, during which they performed Hajj rituals. Muharram, which comes next, was made sacred so that they are able to go back to their areas in safety after performing Hajj.
Rajab, in the middle of the lunar year, was made sacred so that those coming from the farthest areas of Arabia are able to perform Umrah and visit the House and then go back to their areas safely.
Allah said next,
(That is the right religion), that is the Straight Law, requiring implementing Allah's order concerning the months that He made sacred and their true count as it was originally written by Allah. Allah said" end of the speach Ibnu katheer رحمه الله.

?VOLUNTARY DEEDS TO BE DONE IN THIS MONTH

1️⃣FASTING THE DAYS OF IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE

For the Hadeeth of Abu Harairah (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:

"The most excellent fast after Ramadan is Allah's month. al-Muharram, and the most excellent prayer after what is prescribed is prayer during the night."
? Transmitted by Muslim

In another narration (the Messenger of Allah) was asked as to which prayer was most excellent after the prescribed prayer, and which fast was most excellent after the month of Ramadan. He said:
"Prayer offered in the middle of the night and the most excellent fast after (fasting) in the month of Ramadan is the fast in Allah's month al-Muharram."
? Transmitted by Muslim

2️⃣FASTING THE TENTH DAY OF IT WHICH IS 'ASHURA

Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him):
"I never saw the Prophet (ﷺ) seeking to fast on a day that he favored more than another except this day, the day of 'Ashura', and this month, meaning the month of Ramadan."
? Transmitted by Al Bukhari and Muslim

For the Hadeeth of Aisha (Allah be pleased with her):**
