Is there relation between excessive irrigation of socket with normal saline and the development of dry socket ?

In this article , a total of 500 teeth were extracted and the sockets were irrigated with 20cc of normal saline.

After 1 week , only 4 cases have develop dry socket , and even in these cases the cause of dry socket is not related to normal saline irrigation .

The article shows a higher incidence in females than males, in lower jaw than upper jaw, in posterior than anterior teeth, in age 31-40 than other ages, in traumatic extraction than non traumatic.
