*The pie charts illustrate the statistics on the percentages of resources used to produce energy in a particular country in the years 1985 and 2003.

Overall, oil and nuclear fell out of favor in the energy production during the period, while almost all the other resources saw an upward trend, albeit at different rates, except for hydro power which remained unchanged throughout. It is also clear that the highest proportion of energy came from oil over the years despite a considerable decrease in the second year.

Focusing on the increases first, coal had by far the highest growth from 8% in 1985 to 22% in 2003, whereas natural gas was responsible for 23% of energy production in 2003, up from 13% in the first year. Although other unspecified renewables had the lowest percentage (1%) in 1985, this proportion then grew to 4% in the final year.

As for the remaining categories, oil was by far the most important resource for the production of energy, with 52% share in 1985, a figure that then decreased to 39% in 2003. Similarly, nuclear also experienced a downward trend, falling to 8% in 2003, despite the initial relatively large proportion of 22%. In contrast, hydro was the only source which remained unchanged in both years, at 4%.
