Protectionism is when government tries to protect its industries and workplaces by putting taxes on competitive products from abroad.

In other words, when a price of foreign goods is lower than that of a local, governments put tariffs on foreign goods to make them more expensive for the customer and encourage people to buy locally produced goods and stimulate the economy.

For example, cars from abroad have tariffs imposed on them so that Uzbek population buys GM cars

Mercantilism is when government tries to export more than import. This goes hand-in-hand with protectionism.

Again an example for this can be how government helps GM by removing taxes on exported cars.

Free-market economy is totally different to the above-mentioned two. In this model, government intervention is minimal and the market is not controlled by anyone!
