M2 beginning!

At the very beginning of the study year M2 students should choose the elective courses to reach the 30ECTS in total with "Entrepreneurship" and "Research project" mandatory courses.

Entrepreneurship (6ECTS)
Is about project management skills, soft skills and an entrepreneurial mindset in research

Research Project (6ECTS)
Course is about epistemological approach of scientific research, rules governing the design a research project, academic and industrial research, defence of a research project

We were given a choice of ten elective courses of versatile focus, different complexity and duration. From the point of view of previous year M2 students, I chose the most complex ones 😂🫠. It's not great news for my brain, bcz I know it will be tough. But weighing all the pros and cons if form of getting the really-really essential for my future research knowledge and awareness that I would literally be dead by the end of the semester, I took these courses after all:

Current research in Neuroscience (9ECTS)
At these course we will learn how to illustrate key questions in neuroscience, describe imaging and electrophysiological techniques, perform a critical analysis of figures of a scientific articles, design an experimental protocol to answer a specific question, contribute to a critical discussion;

Neuronal circuits and behaviour (6ECTS)
Course is about cellular and synaptic mechanisms underlying the functioning of a neuronal network that allow to produce a physiologically relevant activity, the mechanisms underlying the functional flexibility of neuronal networks, techniques for studying neuronal circuits (optogenetic, chemogenetic, functional imaging);

Programming and data analysis (3ECTS)
This includes linear algebra, signal analysis, computational neuroscience, intro to scientific python + exam in form of exercises and 2 projects (analysis of EEG recordings and MRI visualisation);

Guys, hi!
I'm currently looking for an earnings as a tutor. If you know anyone who needs a tutor in English (for example, schoolchildren) or Russian (why not??) I would be grateful if you write to me. :)

ADHD basics
Post 2

ADHD - is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulty sustaining attention, hyperactivity, difficulty to follow plans, complete tasks and remain seated—among other signs. Such a definition u can find in many sources, but the ADHD is not so unambiguous. ADHD is a spectrum disorder and there are different types of ADHD: Inattentive, Hyperactive-Impulsive and Combined. Depending on the set of symptoms and their intensity a person can be diagnosed closer to attention deficit or hyperactivity type. But the “same” type of ADHD varies from person to person bcz of the difference in manifestation intensity of each symptom and age of their appearance.

ADHD is usually diagnosed in childhood and often lasts into adulthood, but symptoms can be polished over time or even disappear with age. ADHD is among the most common mental conditions, with an estimated 6 million children ages 3 to 17 years having ever been diagnosed with ADHD. In childhood ADHD is often diagnosed in boys, and girls remain undiagnosed until adolescence, because boys are more active and girls' behaviour is often suppressed by social norms.

ADHD is distinguished by a multitude of interacting multifaceted neurobiological and environmental factors that impact the onset and severity of the disease. Complex polygenic and heterogenic mechanisms contribute to variability in the phenotypic manifestation, comorbidities, and the severity of symptoms in neuropsychiatric and developmental disorders

The Dopamine (DA) hypothesis in ADHD states that an underlying cause of ADHD is dysfunctional dopamine transmission: the brain can’t receive dopamine correctly, leading to emotional responses that differ from those who are neurotypical. The DA hypothesis was proposed as: (i) the critical role of the DA systems in motor, motivational, and reward processes, which are abnormal in ADHD patients; and (ii) application of drugs that target DA receptor sites ameliorate some of the symptoms of ADHD, such as a DA reuptake blocker for the treatment of ADHD. Thus, disequilibrium of D1- and D2-like receptors leading to perturbations in the dopaminergic system may exert a major role in the pathogenesis of ADHD during brain development and maturation.

In short, people with ADHD lack a normal level of the DA and often have Dopamine-seeking behaviour looking for “easy” or “quick” DA and get addicted to something. In more detail in the following posts.
