Tropical Storm Pilar slamming portions of Central America with up to 10-15 inches of rain
Central America is currently being hit with heavy rains from Tropical Storm Pilar, following deadly Hurricane Otis. El Salvador has declared a State of National Emergency as the strengthening storm threatens the Pacific Coast of Central America with over a foot of rain, which could trigger mountain landslides. "Coming up against the Pacific coast of Mexico, an oddball situation with Otis which turned into a deadly, destructive Category 5 at landfall," FOX Weather meteorologist Amy Freeze said. "And all of a sudden, we're watching Pilar under a microscope." Tropical Storm Pilar is about 175 south-southwest of San Salvador, El Salvador, moving east-northeast at 3 mph. Maximum sustained winds are 50 mph and tropical-storm-force winds stretch out 70 miles.

COVID-19, flu vaccines taken together linked to stroke risk
US government researchers, and scientists with Kaiser Permanente, have recently reported finding elevated stroke risk among certain populations. A growing number of studies indicate people are at higher risk of stroke if they receive COVID-19 and influenza vaccines at the same time, though other papers have not found an elevated risk. Researchers with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently said they identified an increased risk of stroke for some elderly people who received the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines concomitantly with a high-dose/adjuvanted influenza vaccine.

The death toll from floods in Greece has risen to 15 after 4 more bodies found, authorities say
The number of confirmed deaths from recent flooding in central Greece rose to 15 after the bodies of four people previously considered missing were found on Sunday, authorities said. Three of the bodies were located in villages near the city of Karditsa in western Thessaly. They are an 88-year-old woman and her 65-year-old son, who were found in their home, as well as a 58-year-old man whose body was found between two villages. The coast guard said Sunday that the body of a 42-year-old man, missing since Tuesday, was found floating in the sea near the city of Volos. He was last seen in his car unable to control it in raging waters.

Secret Service agent who was with JFK on day of his assassination breaks silence - suggests there WAS more than one shooter
A former Secret Service agent who was present at President John F. Kennedy's assassination has come forward with a new claim that would debunk the 'magic bullet' theory and raises questions about whether there was a second shooter. Paul Landis, 88, broke his silence on Saturday, nearly 60 years after Kennedy was shot dead in a motorcade passing through Dallas, to share his bombshell recollection with the New York Times. Landis, who in 1963 was a young Secret Service agent assigned to protect First Lady Jaqueline Kennedy, said that in the chaos following the shooting, he picked up a nearly pristine bullet sitting on the top of the back seat of the open limousine. It was just behind where Kennedy was sitting when he was killed, he says. Landis says he took the projectile and placed it on the president's hospital stretcher to preserve it for the autopsy investigators.

Investigator and author says people are mysteriously missing in national parks
People are going missing in national parks and North American wilderness areas. A 2019 documentary, Missing 411: The Hunted, reports as many as 1,200 individuals have disappeared, but also admits that number may be under-reported. David Paulides, a former police detective turned private investigator, is the author of the popular Missing 411 series and documentaries of the same name, as well as the CanAm Missing Project. He said, "We don't know how many people go missing from these locations because the USFS [United States Forest Service] and NPS [National Park Service] refuse to release a list of these missing people." Several Hundred Cases a Year Paulides is dedicated to investigating missing persons in national parks and forests. When asked how many cases he typically researches in a year, he responded, "We probably research several hundred people per year." One thing is certain: people who hike and camp in national parks or hunt in national forests and wilderness areas have...

Major sanctioned Russian bank launches money transfer service to sanctioned Iran
Russia's second largest bank, VTB, has launched a new service allowing both individuals and businesses to transfer money to and from Iran, the lender announced on Monday. State-owned VTB, which has been subject to sweeping Western sanctions since late February, has thus become the first lender to provide banking services to Iran, a country that has been under international restrictions for decades.

Scientists achieve a breakthrough in nuclear fusion
A U.S. lab has successfully sparked a fusion reaction that released more energy than went into it. But there's still a long way to go toward fusion as a clean energy source. For more than 60 years, scientists have pursued one of the toughest physics challenges ever conceived: harnessing nuclear fusion, the power source of the stars, to generate abundant clean energy here on Earth. Today, researchers announced a milestone in this effort. For the first time, a fusion reactor has produced more energy than was used to trigger the reaction. On December 5, an array of lasers at the National Ignition Facility (NIF), part of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, fired 2.05 megajoules of energy at a tiny cylinder holding a pellet of frozen deuterium and tritium, heavier forms of hydrogen. The pellet compressed and generated temperatures and pressures intense enough to cause the hydrogen inside it to fuse. In a tiny blaze lasting less than a billionth of a second, the...

Supreme Court orders Title 42 will stay in place
On Monday, the Supreme Court of the United States issued a stay on the lifting of Title 42, which gave officials the ability to expel illegal immigrants over health concerns and was set to expire on Wednesday. According to the Texas Tribune, "Immigration officials have used the health order more than 2 million times to expel migrants." The ruling comes after a lawsuit filed Monday from nineteen GOP-led States asked to keep the rules in place as a measure to stave off the impact of Biden's border crisis, which has seen 2,378,944 encounters with illegal immigrants in the 2022 fiscal year and 1,659,206 in 2021.
