𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐮‘𝐭𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞

‎“This is one of their fundamental principles. A Mu‘tazilite is not considered truly Mu‘tazilite unless they adhere to and practice five core principles:

‎1.𝗧𝗮𝘄ḥ𝗶̄𝗱 [literally Divine Unity]
‎2.‘𝗔𝗱𝗹 [literally Justice]
‎3.𝗔𝗹-𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗵 𝗕𝗮𝘆𝗻 𝗮𝗹-𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗻 [The Intermediate Position]
‎4.𝗔𝗹-𝗪𝗮‘𝗱 𝘄𝗮 𝗮𝗹-𝗪𝗮‘𝗶̄𝗱 [Divine Promise and Threat]
‎5.𝗔𝗹-𝗔𝗺𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗹-𝗠𝗮‘𝗿𝘂̄𝗳 𝘄𝗮 𝗮𝗹-𝗡𝗮𝗵𝘆 ‘𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹-𝗠𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗮𝗿 [Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil]

‎These are the five principles.

‎𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝘄ḥ𝗶̄𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺?

‎For the Mu‘tazilites, Tawḥīd entails the 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀. They do not affirm any attributes of Allāh, only His names in a purely abstract sense - that’s Tawḥīd [for them]. According to them, if you reject divine attributes, you are truly affirming [Islāmic] monotheism!.

‎‘𝗔𝗱𝗹 [𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲]

‎It relates to what we discussed yesterday—that 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗮̄𝗵 and this is from justice. According to Mu‘tazilite doctrine, justice necessitates that human beings create their own actions. Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic, has no involvement in human deeds and does not create any of their actions.

‎𝗔𝗹-𝗪𝗮‘𝗱 𝘄𝗮 𝗮𝗹-𝗪𝗮‘𝗶̄𝗱 [Divine Promise and Threat]

‎As we mentioned earlier, this principle states that 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹. However, if they repent before death, Allāh accepts their repentance.

‎𝗔𝗹-𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗵 𝗕𝗮𝘆𝗻 𝗮𝗹-𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗻 [The Intermediate Position]

‎This principle applies in this world: 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗽𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀. This distinguishes Mu‘tazilites from the Kharajites, [who regard such a person as a disbeliever].

‎𝗔𝗹-𝗔𝗺𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗹-𝗠𝗮‘𝗿𝘂̄𝗳 𝘄𝗮 𝗮𝗹-𝗡𝗮𝗵𝘆 ‘𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹-𝗠𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗮𝗿 [Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil]

‎For the Mu‘tazilites, this principle 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱. Both the Mu‘tazilites and the Kharajites advocate for 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗻𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀, making this a fundamental tenet of Mu‘tazilite doctrine.”

The Three Jīms of Corruption

‎🎓 ʿAllāmah Ibn ʿUthaymīn, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:

‎💬❝The Jahmiyyah have three Jīms (the letter ج), which are all corruption:

‎1️⃣ Jahm: which is related to the Attributes (of Allāh) [i.e. it's negation],

‎2️⃣ Jabr: which is related to the Divine Decree [i.e. it's negation],

‎3️⃣ Irjāʾ: which is related to Īmān [i.e. negating action from it]

‎Three Jīms which have no goodness in them.❞
