here’s my own poly experience which would of course, differ from yours! however, it could give you some insights into whay you’re getting urself into if ure looking at np business/business studies specifically

1. 80% of lecturers are js there for money with 0 passion to teach. the rare 20% are a godsend and they are really there to help you learn! (1 every sem?)

how to cope with the 80% of lecturers?
• if their classes are boring, be there physically but don’t waste your time being there mentally. just look thru brightspace and self-learn everything there. make sure that your concept is solid. if the lecturer is really sht, when u ask them qns, they’ll say “it’s on brightspace” - which is true because everything u need to know is on brightspace. should you need any other explanations, gpt is your bestie?
• try to engage with their qns & do tutorial work at least once a week -> 10% participation grade!

< don’t sacrifice your grades for a bad lecturer >

1. in your class, there’ll be people you dislike and you cannot work with! that’s ok, just try your best and if it really doesn’t work, let your lecturer know. if your lecturer refuses to acknowledge it, bring it up to the higher ups if severe. don’t ever feel paiseh in poly.

2. understand that some can be your friends, but cannot be your group mates.

3. np business is well-known because of their externals rather than their internals

what i’m referring to is
• the sandbox -> for entrepreneurs/those looking to start up their own business! you can get money to start off if they see value in your work

• GEIP -> global entreprenual international program: intern overseas for 6mths under a startup company! (indonesia, vietnam, shanghai etc)

however, what they teach in the school itself aren’t exactly relevant IMO because i’m looking to hire and not be hired? -> NP biz is very focused on training workers rather than business owners (do note that to be an entrepreneur, you ofc need to know how the strings work too, so ig that’s what theyre focusing on)

nonetheless, you’ll still have 1-3 entrepreneurial people in your class who make good connections!

1. in business, it is very easy to get a good gpa. just make sure your work is prim and proper and always submit on time. the concepts are basic and never go wrong. however, you can get pulled down by useless groupmates?. i find that in np, lecturers want you to do your best, so they typically give a minimal B unless u really nvr put in effort/do wrongly, then u’ll get a C or worse, D & below. getting B+s is really easy (and that’s already a 3.5 gpa!)

2. this makes it very competitive, and people are persistent on their 4.0 gpa. then again, it’s about what you truly want. if you wanna go to uni, then u shld of course, aim for a 4.0. however, if you’re there to learn & looking to go to work after/start ur own biz, then it shouldn’t matter to you. the stresses of the 4.0 people would actually get to you and make u stress tgt w them, but just rmb what you’re there for.
