From Grime to Shine
Maintaining one’s bicycle chain is key to ensuring optimal performance and longevity.

Over time, dirt accumulates on chains and causes friction. This impedes pedalling and gear shifting, and exacerbates wear and tear. A dirty chain then damages the drivetrain’s other components (i.e. cassette, chainrings, derailleur) which are expensive to replace.

To clean a chain, use a bristle brush with degreaser or some soap and water to remove accumulated grime within the chain links. It is prudent to avoid prolonged soaking of the chain in the degreaser since the cleaning solution can corrode the metal. After drying it, rotate the pedals backwards while applying a small drop of lube to each link of the chain. Finally, wipe off any excess residue to prevent buildup on the drivetrain.

Maximise Mobility
It is often most ergonomic to use the raised seatpost as a handle when rolling a folded Birdy. However, before taking hands off the Birdy, it is advised to lower the seatpost all the way as the contact between the seatpost base and the ground will stabilise the folded bicycle.
