Ok transparency time.

There is not a single day when I don't wake up with anxiety worrying about if I'm going to "keep winning" that day.

Heart beats fast. I doubt myself. The whole thing...

It's almost never a big problem but I make them big in my head. I repeat to myself at least 10 times a day "all your enemies are inside your head. they're not real."

That helps a lot.

And I always. Always. Just force myself to write something. Usually tweets. I'll write 50 tweets and even if one is good I conquered my demons for the day. Done. Next.

I doubt myself every day. I don't know what the fuck I'm doing half the time. But I follow so many smarter people than me and better writers than me that somehow I end up winning too.

I'm lucky because I engineered luck. That's all I did. I kept trying until something eventually hit. I understood that you can write an unlimited amount of words and try an unlimited amount of businesses.

Losing isn't bad. It's not forcing yourself to try one more time that's bad.

Hell, losing in the short run isn't even losing. That's why I classify losses into good or bad. Good losses are when I lose at something new or something above my level. Bad losses are when I lose at something I know how to win at and at / below my level.

So if you fail it's cool. Try again. You didn't "waste" an opportunity. You just exhaused one. So what. You have 19 trillion more.

hi

Here's a suggestion for your weekend:

Take some time to go through the stuff you've saved on Twitter, in your browser, and in your emails

See, we're busy throughout the day

But we come across some useful content on Twitter or an article

So what do we do?

We save it for later - we bookmark it

But... we never come back to it. Days, weeks, months pass. All the while, we're bookmarking more stuff, burying the initial treasures we found

So, this weekend, take a little time to go through your bookmarks. I bet you'll find something useful...

Last time I talked about external distractions. Now let's talk about internal distractions:

You probably have a lot of noise in your head. It's chaos in there. Why? Because you're trying to keep track of your to-dos, thoughts, and ideas in your head.

That makes it hard to focus when it's time to work, and hard to relax when it's time to rest.

Not good.

So what do you do?

Use the good old brain dumping strategy I constantly talk about. Grab a pen and paper or fire up Notion, then write down all of the things on your mind.

This will clear your mind a good bit AND it'll help you organize all the stuff that was on your mind.

Enjoy.

When I did the "ask me anything" thing the other day, I got several questions about how to improve focus

The next few notes will be about this topic

The first thing you can do is reduce your external distractions

- clear your workspace by tidying up and putting things in order

- clear your virtual workspace by closing unnecessary tabs and programs

- keep your phone silenced and out of sight while you're working

Your phone being in your field of view reduces your ability to pay attention to the task you're working on

After yesterday's post, you're probably wondering "what can I do during the screens off period?"

You want to do things which don't really stimulate you mentally or physically. You want your body and mind to start winding down so you can get to sleep.

Great choices include:

• reading fiction or biographies
• meal prep
• cleaning (what I usually do)
• yoga/stretching
• hot shower/bath (helps you sleep)
• meditation
• journaling

I've explained how to start meditating and journaling a few times in this channel - search the channel for those words if you didn't catch those posts.

Try doing those things instead of using screens this week and I guarantee you'll be sleeping better.

Quick tip to help you sleep better:

The blue light from screens disrupts the production of melatonin (the hormone that makes you sleepy).

If you use screens right up until you go to bed, you'll have a hard time going to sleep because you haven't given your system time to produce that melatonin.

What you want to do is turn off your screens 30-60 minutes before bed.

Do some other stuff like read, take a hot shower, clean up, etc.

Then when you lie down in bed, you'll have an easier time falling asleep faster.

Productivity gurus (like myself) love to talk about the importance of managing your time.

Time management is one of the keys to optimal performance.

However, you also have to manage your attention.

If you're not managing your attention, it honestly doesn't matter how well you manage your time.

You have to have a balance.

The best way to go about this is to manage your time such that you have dedicated time blocks for work. Then, when you sit down to work, manage your FOCUS so that you're only working on one single thing.

Narrow your focus to deepen your results.

I'll talk about how to manage your focus tomorrow...
