BC Identification Card (BCIC): When you arrive in BC, you will need to have 3 types of identification.

1. Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a nine-digit number. You need it to work in Canada or to apply for government benefits.
2. BC Identification Card is issued by the Province of British Columbia. You need it to get provincial services, including health care.
3. driver’s licence. What is the BCIC:
   It serves as your health care card, and you can use it when you need photo ID. You can also choose to have your BC Services Card combined with your B.C. driver’s licence, providing you with one convenient card for both purposes.
   To apply you BCIC submit your original passport and study or work permit to the following address (don’t forget original, not photocopies): Address: Royal Centre (Near the Royal Regency Hotel, Downtown, Vancouver)
   Your BCIC will be mailed to your address within 60 days. Icbc.com.

Information regarding “SIN” number:
SIN number is Social Insurance Number.

To apply your SIN number gather your original study permit or work permit and passport and take them to the nearest Service Canada office.
Note that original documents only; photocopies are not acceptable.

SIN you get on the spot within 10 to 30 minutes on any working day. Take your passport and study or work permit to service canada office. The card is dispatched through Canada Post and you will receive in 7-10 days. Just after the number ( no card) you can apply for jobs.

Information regarding registration your kid at the Elementary school in Vancouver: First you must have a house agreement to can register your kid at school. Then visit the website (go.vsb.bc.ca) to download the “ newcomer welcome centre” form.
If you couldn’t find the form you can go The following address directly.
Address: East-wing of Moberly Elementary, 1000 East 59th Avenue, Vancouver,
Registration hour: 8.30 am to 11 am
Monday to Friday.
Don’t forget you must go before 11 am.

The parent must accompany student
to register him/ her as a new student.
Required documents:
1. Passport
2. Birth certificate
3. Vaccination report
4. Child’s previous school report
5. Proof of status in Canada such as parent’s work permit or study permit.
6. Proof of residence in Vancouver. It means you must submit your rental house agreement.
All of the above documents should be original. Both Parent and student need to attend for registration.
This centre will register your kid as a new student in Canada then they will send a letter to nearest school to your home address. Then they will arrange a time to test your kid. This test is including Mathematics and English. The assessment is according age of student. This test is only to determine your kid English language ability. Then they will send a report to the determined school in order to support your kid at school if he/ she can’t speak English well.
Next stage the school will contact you for registration.
