On this day in 1850, the House of Representatives passed the California Statehood Act. This legislation brought to the attention of the admittance of the California Republic (Bear Flag Republic) to the Union, to the forefront of President Millard Fillmore.

Two days later, he would sign the bill into law, bringing the state in the Union as the 31st state.

"We, from the beginning of the birth of this nation, have known ourselves as Romanians and Orthodox Christians. This is how we were born and we have the duty to keep pure and complete what we inherited from our ancestors, as if from God. But we, the Romanian Orthodox community, let us never forget the piety, the zeal and the sacrifice of our rulers, ancestors and fathers, with which they defended for almost two thousand years, the homeland and this faith that was given to them as a holy inheritance from our Lord Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit, in His righteous Church.

We don't want to disturb anyone's peace of mind, but we also don't want to distance ourselves from the ancestral heritage in which we feel the deep unity of our race lies.

For us, the homeland and Orthodoxy are the "garden of Heaven" given to us by God, to "work in it and guard it" (Genesis 2, 15) with holiness."
