⚓️16 maart: Internationale protesten tegen nieuwe fossiele winning in de Noordzee - NL actie Rotterdam ⚓️

Ondanks Europese klimaatbeloften worden nieuwe locaties voor olie- en gaswinning in de Noordzee en Waddenzee toegestaan😢. Het IPCC-rapport van de VN en het Internationaal Energie Agentschap zijn duidelijk: uitbreiding van de olie- en gaswinning brengen onze klimaatdoelen uit zicht🫠. De fossiele industrie heeft haar ogen gericht op winst en aandeelhoudersrendement, ze vertellen ons sreenwashed sprookjes terwijl ze schaamteloos doorgaan met het opstarten van nieuwe fossiele projecten.

Eén zo'n bedrijf is Shell, dat samen met Exxon de NAM vormt. De NAM, die verantwoordelijk is voor gasboringen en aardbevingen in Groningen, richt haar vizier nu op de Waddenzee, aan de rand van de Noordzee. De Waddenzee staat op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO, waar talloze beschermde inheemse en trekvogelsoorten afhankelijk zijn van de ligging van de zeebodem tijdens laag water om aan hun basisvoedsel te komen🐦‍⬛️. De Waddenzee is een van de ondiepste kustgebieden van Nederland en daarom extreem kwetsbaar voor de gevolgen van klimaatverandering. Toch besluit Shell hier te boren‼️

Het is de hoogste tijd om naar Shell te gaan en ze te vertellen dat het genoeg is🔥. We eisen van Shell, andere fossiele bedrijven en alle regeringen die hen faciliteren dat ze 1️⃣ eerlijk zijn over klimaatverandering 2️⃣ geen nieuwe productie in de Noordzee en Waddenzee toestaan en 3️⃣ actie ondernemen voor een rechtvaardige en groene transitie. Samen met onze internationale partners in Groot-Brittannië, Noorwegen, Zweden, Denemarken en Duitsland organiseren we op 16 maart protesten tegen verdere uitbreiding van fossiele productie in en rond de Noordzee. Er zullen acties zijn in al deze landen en wij zullen de onze houden in Rotterdam. Samen staan we sterk en kunnen we niet genegeerd worden❗️

⚓️16th March: International protests against new fossil extraction in the North Sea – NL action Rotterdam ⚓️

Despite European climate promises, new sites for oil and gas extraction in the North Sea and Wadden Sea are being permitted😢. The UN’s IPCC report and the International Energy Agency are clear: expanding oil and gas production pushes us off track for our climate targets🫠. The fossil industry has its eyes on profits and share-holder returns, they tell us greenwashed fairytales while they blatantly continue to initiate new fossil projects.

One such company is Shell, which together with Exxon form the NAM. The NAM who are responsible for gas drilling and earthquakes in Groningen is now turning their sights to the Wadden Sea, on the edges of the North Sea. The Wadden Sea is a UNESCO World Heritage site, where numerous protected native and migratory bird species depend on the exposure of the seabed during low tides to obtain their staple foods🐦‍⬛️. The Wadden Sea is one of the shallowest coastal areas in the Netherlands and therefore extremely vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Yet, Shell decides to drill here‼️

It is time to go to Shell to tell them that enough is enough🔥. We demand Shell, other fossil companies and all governments that facilitate them to 1️⃣ be honest about climate change 2️⃣ not allow any new production in the North and Wadden Seas and 3️⃣ take action towards a just and green transition.
Together with our international partners in Britain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany, we are organising protests on 16 March against further expansion of fossil production in and around the North Sea. There will be actions in all these countries and we will have ours in Rotterdam. Together we stand strong and cannot be ignored❗️

In december blokkeerden we al bij Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) en op 16 januari verstoorden we ook bij het energieontbijt van EBN: https://vimeo.com/903395240. De boodschap dat boren naar Nieuw Fossiel in strijd is met de doelstellingen tegen de klimaatverandering is duidelijk afgegeven. Maar EBN is nog niet in beweging gekomen. Dus is het tijd voor ons om terug te komen. Met nog veel meer!! 🔥🔥

Wat doet EBN? EBN is namens de staat mede-eigenaar van nieuwe gasprojecten, ook zijn ze adviseur van de overheid. En wat is hun advies? Versneld boren naar nieuw gas op de Noordzee en Waddenzee.... Tijd voor actie dus!

Wij eisen dat onze overheid (1) stopt met alle nieuwe fossiele projecten in de Noordzee, de Waddenzee en op land, (2) dat ze uit internationale afspraken stapt die landen hier en in het mondiale zuiden in een fossiele wurggreep houden, (3) de Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty tekent en (4) via een burgerberaad een noodplan voor afbouw opstelt om te zorgen dat Nederland geen nieuw fossiel nodig heeft.

The message is clear that drilling for New Fossil is contrary to the goals against climate change. EBN has not moved yet. So time for us to return and with many more!!! 🔥🔥

What does EBN do? EBN co-owns new gas drilling projects on behalf of the state, they are also advisors to the government. And what is their advice? Accelerate drilling for new gas in the North Sea and Wadden Sea.... So time for action!

We demand that our government (1) stop all new fossil projects in the North Sea, the Wadden Sea and on land, (2) get out of international agreements that keep countries here and in the global south in a fossil stranglehold, (3) sign the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, and (4) through a citizens' consultation, draw up an emergency phase-out plan to ensure that the Netherlands does not need any new fossil.

Na een geweldige actie, waarbij we lobby-event 'energieontbijt 2024' driekwartier wisten te stoppen, begint de voorbereiding voor onze volgende massa-actie. Op zaterdag 17 februari op 12:00 blokkeren we voor de tweede keer de Daalsesingel in Utrecht, voor het hoofdkantoor van EBN.

Het Nederlandse OneDyas heeft een vergunning gekregen om te boren naar nieuw fossiel in onze Noordzee 🤬. De vergunning is voor sector N05-A, zichtbaar vanaf Schiermonnikoog en akelig dicht bij een UNESCO natuurgebied🤮. Gelukkig is de vergunning tijdelijk opgeschort in afwachting van een rechtszaak over stikstof uitstoot💚. De volgende rechtszitting is donderdag 25 januari om 13:00 uur bij de rechtbank in Den Haag❗️

Hoewel One-Dyas de licentiehouder en operator is, zijn zij niet de enige belanghebbende in het N05-A platform. Ook het Britse Discover Exploration Ltd en Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) gaan flink geld verdienen aan een verdere destructie van onze planeet⛔️. Als dit platform gebouwd wordt gaat dat voor vele jaren broeikasgassen uitstoten en dat terwijl er volgens het IPCC ‘nog maar een kleine kans [is] om een leefbare en duurzame toekomst voor iedereen veilig te stellen.

The Dutch company OneDyas has gotten a permit to drill for new fossil fuels in our North Sea 🤬. The permit is for sector N05-A, visible from Schiermonnikoog and awfully close to a UNESCO world heritage site🤮. Fortunately, the licence has been temporarily suspended pending a court hearing on nitrogen emissions💚. The next court hearing is Thursday 25 January at 13:00 at the court in The Hague.❗️

Although One-Dyas is the licence holder and operator, they are not the only stakeholder in the N05-A platform. UK-based Discover Exploration Ltd and Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) are also going to make big profits from further destroying our planet⛔️. The construction of this platform is going to emit greenhouse gases for many years to come, even though, according to the IPCC, ‘there is a rapidly closing window of opportunity to secure a liveable and sustainable future for all.’

The 🐻‍❄️ is totally fed up with new fossil projects too. With a drilling platform under the artwork 'Pissing Polar Bear', XR Amersfoort concludes the first action month of the Stop New Fossil campaign.

At the beginning of a campaign, it is mainly about generating attention to our demands. The blockade of 💯💯 rebels in Utrecht resulted in attention from the local press and our action even made it to the NOS news and Nieuwsuur! The message also reached Energiebeheer Nederland (EBN). They even closed the building for three days 🔒. Totally unnecessary - we are, after all, non-violent - but at least our action did not pass by any of the employees 😊.

So have they already announced that they are quitting new fossil? If only it were true... For that, first the pressure has to go up further. In January we are asking local groups to take up the baton. A slow march through your own city? A creative action like in Amersfoort? There are already some things in the pipeline but please knock on our door if you want to organize a Stop New Fossil action! In February we will be back on EBN's doorstep. 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
