It is undeniable that people are becoming more obsessed with using technologies to write texts, which has prompted the utilization of pen or pencil to fall out of favor these days. Not only do I believe the  convenience typing on a gadget offers is the primary factor contributing to this trend, but also it is indeed a positive one for the environment as well.

It has been suggested that the main reason why people are abonding writing in pen or pencil boils down to how convenient typing is. It is common knowledge that with the introduction of technologies, such as computers and smartphones, general public has changed their perception on writing, publishing and recording information, as their work now can be done more easily and efficiently. The proponents of typing rather than sticking to the conventional method feel it is easier to type and edit their work and more importantly safer to preserve hundreds of thousands of pages of data intact. Case in point, the hardships writers face while they write by hand do not need to be tolerated anymore because we can rely on gadgets and enjoy a stress-free process thanks to all the perks technological devices provide.

In the same way, many others have claimed that this change has a direct and positive impact on our eco-system. It is not a secret that the mass production of pens and pencils over the decades has resulted in the degradation of our forests and environment as a whole. And it is not a challenging task to illustrate how devastating effect it has had, firstly, countless forests have been cleared to produce pencils and paper. Secondly, manufacturing plastic ball pens has lead to a certain level of air pollution, both of which practices can be, and perhaps have already been, reversed since one does not have to sacrifice natural resources so as to type anything in any amount by depending on technologies. For instance, a lot of plants where pens and pencils used to be made are now being shut down and making way for a more environmentally-friendly alternative, which is definitely, a shift for the better.

In conclusion, why pens and pencils are becoming a thing of the past has almost nothing to do with them, but with the ease and comfort typing on a gadget gives us and it is absolutely a positive, positive development for many reasons, but especially as far as the wellbeing of our environment is concerned.
