I saw some jokes about the teacher’s day and wanted to joke about it, too, but then realized a few seconds of seriousness wouldn’t hurt.

My fellow teachers. We are often hated and disrespected. We are quickly forgotten and we are easily replaced in this new competitive market. But if you have been doing this for a long enough time with a similar level of commitment, just know that you are doing a great job. That present perfect tense you explained yesterday is important. The new ‘globalization’ vocabulary you explained is important. That smile you faked when entering the class a week ago is important. The sleep you sacrificed to check essays at night is important. But guess what’s also important? Celebrating more days for no reason. October 1st never meant anything to me because if I need a celebratory spirit, I don’t need to check the calendar. Get some coffee, joke in the face of a student who didn’t do homework and live.

With all that being said, I am blocking anyone who asks me to check an essay tomorrow. Thanks.
