IDF: Based on intelligence information and an operational necessity, IDF forces are carrying out a precise and targeted operation against Hamas in a specified area in the Shifa Hospital.

The IDF is conducting a ground operation in Gaza to defeat Hamas and rescue our hostages. Israel is at war with Hamas, not with the civilians in Gaza.

The IDF forces include medical teams and Arabic speakers, who have undergone specified training to prepare for this complex and sensitive environment, with the intent that no harm is caused to the civilians being used by Hamas as human shields. In recent weeks, the IDF has publicly warned time and again that Hamas' continued military use of the Shifa hospital jeopardizes its protected status under international law, and enabled ample time to stop this unlawful abuse of the hospital. Yesterday, the IDF conveyed to the relevant authorities in Gaza once again that all military activities within the hospital must cease within 12 hours. Unfortunately, it did not.

The IDF has also facilitated wide-scale evacuations of the hospital and maintained regular dialogue with hospital authorities.

We call upon all Hamas terrorists present in the hospital to surrender.

IDF: **The decision of the Military Advocate General following the investigation of the circumstances of the death of Omar Abdelmajed Assad in the village of Jiljiliya on January 12, 2022

Today (Tuesday), the Military Advocate General informed the representatives of those involved in the incident, that disciplinary and command measures will be taken against them, and they will not be criminally prosecuted. The decision was made following the hearings and after a thorough examination of the investigation materials, which indicated no causal link was found between the errors in the conduct of the soldiers and Assad’s death.

On January 12, 2022, IDF soldiers from the Netzah Yehuda Battalion operated in the village of Jiljiliya to thwart terrorist activity and locate illegal weapons. As part of the activity, a security check post was set up where IDF soldiers stopped and inspected vehicles. A few hours later, a report was received regarding the death of Omar Assad, who was driving one of the vehicles and was delayed for inspection. Following this report, an investigation was launched by the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division (MPCID).

The investigation was in-depth and comprehensive. As part of it, a large amount of evidence was gathered and testimonies from relevant parties were collected with the aim of examining the circumstances of his death and the conduct of the IDF soldiers.

The investigation indicated that Assad got out of the vehicle at the request of the soldiers while loudly and persistently resisting their attempts to lead him to the security check. Due to the concern that Assad’s behavior would lead to the soldiers being exposed and in view of his aggressive resistance, a strip of cloth was placed over his mouth for a short time, his hands were tied with a cable tie, and he was taken to the yard of a nearby building and laid on the ground. The soldiers believed Assad was under the influence of alcohol or drugs and assumed he fell asleep on the ground, where he was laid. Later, three more Palestinians were detained, and seated next to Assad.

The counterterrorist activity ended after a short time, and the soldiers released the individuals that were detained. The soldiers did not identify any indications that Assad was in distress. Therefore, they assumed he was asleep, did not attempt to wake him up, and left the location without attempting to wake him up.

After considering the allegations in the hearings, and examining the investigation materials in depth, it was found that there were failures in the conduct of those involved, who acted in a manner that did not correspond with what is required and expected of IDF soldiers.

It was also found that there is no causal link between the failures of the soldiers' conduct and Assad’s death. This finding is in accordance with the professional opinion of a senior IDF medical official, who found that it is not possible to determine that Assad’s death was caused specifically by the soldiers’ conduct, nor could the soldiers have been aware of Assad’s medical condition during the delay and before releasing him.

Accordingly, and with consideration of the errors in the soldiers’ conduct and the incident’s operational circumstances, it was found that there is no justification to criminally prosecute those involved. The Military Advocate General’s Corps instructed that disciplinary and command measures, that are appropriate to the wrongdoing of some of the soldiers, are to be taken, adding to the steps already taken as part of the initial command examination.

IDF: A short while ago, shots were fired from inside the city of Nablus toward IDF soldiers operating at a military post adjacent to a roundabout in the town of Dayr Sharaf. The soldiers responded with live fire toward the source of the shooting.
An IDF soldier was lightly injured and evacuated to a hospital to receive medical treatment. His family has been notified.

IDF: Following the initial report, assailants fired in the direction of the community of Neveh Tzuf. IDF soldiers stationed at a military post adjacent to the community responded by firing a number of bullets. IDF soldiers are searching the area for the assailants.

After the shooting, two injured Palestinians arrived at the entrance of the community to receive medical treatment. One of the injured Palestinians, among the two, is a two-year-old child, was evacuated in an IDF helicopter to an Israeli hospital.

After an initial inquiry, it was revealed that two assailants carried out a shooting for several minutes toward the community. IDF soldiers identified the shooting and responded with live fire. IDF: Following the initial report, during routine IDF activity in the area of the town of Huwara, a vehicle accelerated toward an IDF soldier and rammed into him. An additional soldier in the area fired toward the vehicle, which fled the scene.

The soldier was lightly injured and he was evacuated to a hospital to receive medical treatment. His family has been notified.
