"Essentially a soldier, the Christian is always on the lookout... He is never submerged in life, but keeps his head and shoulders clear of it and his eyes free to look upward."
— Fr. Romano Guardini, Meditations Before Mass
"The different ways in which God, acting in history, cares for the world and for mankind are not mutually exclusive; on the contrary, they support each other and intersect. They have their origin and goal in the eternal, wise and loving counsel whereby God predestines men and women “to be conformed to the image of his Son” (Rom 8:29)."**
— Pope St. John Paul II, Veritatis Splendor 45
"The Son, therefore, came, sent by the Father. It was in Him, before the foundation of the world, that the Father chose us and predestined us to become adopted sons, for in Him it pleased the Father to re-establish all things."
—Lumen Gentium 3, Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican

I took two years of Latin a couple years back, regrettably I've allowed my knowledge lapse due to failing to maintain my individual study. Its embarrassing to look at sentences which I would've been able to translate on the fly during class and, despite recognizing many of the words, fail to place the meaning and not have a grasp of the grammar even when I do recall definitions.
The course I took focused heavily on translation, which many (most?) agree is not a great way to learn a language. I am seriously considering taking up the practice again, returning to the very basics using some of the highly recommended natural method book(s). Would anyone be interested in joining me, helping each other to stay on track? I can't commit to anything yet, but if I go forward I'd ideally dedicate an hour a day and would want people to share a similar level of commitment (+ listening to additional material during intermittently throughout the day).
If you or someone you know would be interested, shoot me a telegram direct message here (again, I'm not able to commit to anything immediately). I am going to be offline until next week, I will respond to any messages at that time (scheduled a few posts).
"Are we that much different from Our Lord’s tormentors? Often, don’t we deny that He is king, refusing to obey His only commands that we love Him and one another? Don’t we render Him mock tribute, pay Him lip service with our half-hearted devotions? ... And despite our repeated failures, our frailty, Jesus still humbles Himself to come to us, offering us His Body and Blood in the Eucharist."
— Scott Hahn and Ken Ogorek, Breaking the Bread: A Biblical Devotional for Catholics Year B
"What, then, are we asking when we say, Hallowed be thy name? We beg that God’s name be held holy among people who until now have not regarded him as holy by reason of their unbelief, though of himself and in himself, and in his saints, he is always holy... In him may they find their joy, as straightforward men and women in their straightforward Lord; for how good God is to Israel! But only to those of straightforward hearts*."*
— St. Augustine, Exposition 1 of Psalm 103

"During this Lent we must truly seek with greater fervor that which is not just a part but is the entire mystery of this whole season. Therefore if perhaps your zeal has somewhat abated during recent days, it is fitting that you rekindle your fervor of spirit."
