◾️ What's the correct way of bringing up children ◾️

?? Question:

He has a daughter who is six years old and a son who is four. He wants to raise them with a proper upbringing, covering all aspects of their lives.

? Answer:

The best nurturing is to raise them based on the Qur'aan and Sunnah, but you must stick to the the Qur'aan and Sunnah during the nurturing.

And that he should not burden the young boy with what is not required by Islamic legislation, and similarly not burden the young daughter with what is not required by Islamic legislation.

This means using kindness, supplication, and good words with them.

They should be encouraged to do what is appropriate for their age, without being harsh nor burdening. He should make learning appealing to them, teach them to love the righteous, and encourage them to do good.

The issue of children is a topic where people fall into two extremes and a middle path.

The first extreme is when someone who has been guided by Allaah, wants his child to follow the ways of adults – like waking up for night prayers (Tahajjud), attending congregational prayers, and participating in every religious activity.

But children have their own rights, capabilities, and levels of understanding. And Allaah did not obligate them to follow these things until the age of fifteen or when they reach puberty, as they are not obligated before that.

The second extreme is when parents do not care about their children at all, letting them do as they please. This leads to corruption, wrongdoing, and sin as they associate with the wrong people.

The third approach, which is the best to be, involves giving children their rights in terms of providing for their food, drink, clothing, and bringing them joy through play, interaction, and permissible games.

They should also be taught the correct creed and pure religion, and encouraged to do good. This is the approach that leads to success.

The first approach might lead the child to dislike knowledge, scholars, patience, the people of patience, righteous people, and good due to the harshness of their parents.

We have heard from some women that they raise their children, claiming to be upon the Sunnah, but they use fire to burn them if they make a mistake. This is not raising a child; this is torture!

We ask Allaah for guidance for ourselves, for you, for our children, and for the children of the Muslims.

Ruling on nurturing children with educational cartoons that aim to teach Islaamic manners

Shaykh Saaalih Ibnu Fawzan Al-Fawzaan رحمه الله said:

Allaah has forbidden images (with souls) and has forbidden acquiring them. So how do we nurture our children on that?! How do we nurture them on something that is forbidden?! On forbidden images and animated statues that speak, resembling humans - this is an extreme depiction and it is not permissible to nurture children on it.

And this is what the disbelievers want. They want us to oppose what the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم has forbidden. As the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم و forbade images (with soul) and their usage and acquisition.

These people promote them among youth and Muslims under the pretext of education. This is a corrupt education. While the correct education is to teach them what benefits them in their Deen and in this world.

THE TRUE FUTURE

There is NO CROWN if your child ends up with a certification that shows his Dunyaa prowess: be it as high as PHd/Professorship or lower.

BUT

There is a CROWN for the parents who their child memorizes the QUR'AAN.

SO

Train your child upon the correct Aqeedah, and guide him towards the memorization of the Glorious Qur'aan.

AND

Get yourself a crown and be enrobed with distinction in front of the whole CREATION!

Buraydah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

"من قرأ القرآن وتعلَّم وعمل به أُلبس والداه يوم القيامة تاجاً من نور ضوؤه مثل ضوء الشمس ، ويكسى والداه حلتين لا تقوم لهما الدنيا فيقولان : بم كسينا هذا ؟ فيقال : بأخذ ولدكما القرآن"

Whoever recites the Qur'aan, learns it, and works with it, his parents would be worn on the day of Qiyaamah (Resurrection) a CROWN from light in which it's brilliance is similar to the sun,

his parents would be ENROBED with suits, a like of which they did not have in the Dunyaa;

then both parents would ask: why are we ENROBED with this?

They will be replied to: because of your son's diligence with the Qur'aan.

What Is Better Than Giving Them Gold And Silver

The Great Scholar As-Sa'di رحمه الله said:

Good manners are better for children, in this life and the hereafter, than giving them gold and silver, and all kinds of worldly possessions, because with good manners and beautiful character, they are elevated, and with it they find happiness, and with it they fulfill their duties towards Allaah and towards the people. And with it, they avoid all kinds of harms, and with it, their dutifulness to their parents is perfected.
