Doing an internship in the U.S. or Uzbekistan?

Studying at Bates I have been offered many opportunities, which I mostly would be amazed at in the end. Imagine an institution offering you so much and only for the sake of your personal development yet never once asking for or expecting a return but a diligent community service that is grounded in the values of the institution. An example would be the recent update I received from my college, which stated - to support your career development, we the Bates Community offer a comprehensive funding grant to aid your career exploration through internships you might be interested in taking on during your sophomore and junior years regardless of where you will choose to do it. While I am sure that I will not come back to Uzbekistan the next year and the following to allow myself to discover my field of interest on competitive and more elaborate grounds, I have had a good time here interning at a private law firm learning the basic functionalities of being a lawyer.

After finishing my first year at Bates, I came back to Uzbekistan for my summer break. I remember applying to one law firm in Tashkent even before finishing my finals in the U.S., but because of the lack of professionalism in arranging high-level communication, I rather thought of pursuing other ways. Went to a couple of government-run bureaucratic offices having had to present dozens of documents, which I obviously would not ever be able to find. Considered it a waste and went on searching for an adequate private environment. Found some double kinds. Yet signing a contract for the mere purpose of spending days and later brag it on my LinkedIn was not on my agenda. I talked to people, went to places, and used clientelism, however often was it the case that I either did not like the people or the working norms. Chances of finding the right place were looking quite miles reach.

At the end of the day, however, came across a great law firm; quite renowned for its criminal lawyers with experience in the field mounting 40 years. I needed exactly this - a place where I would learn something and get pre-career exposure. I thank myself at this point for finding the courage to come back to my soil and to start off career exploration right from there.

At the firm, I thank my senior colleagues for supporting my way to the realm, helping me dive into the world of such serious interpretations, codes, laws, and perhaps not the least - a real angle from which you get to see not black and white but the colors beyond.

Sometimes I wake up with heart palpitations.

As if my heart is pounding out my chest for no real reason.

Yeah, for no real reason.

I tend to think that the world's falling apart around me.

And I find it really hard to look at things objectively.

It seems like everything's crumbling down when actually it isn't.

But it feels like it's.

I live a life of independence but that still doesn't come to satisfy me.

I lived a life of dependence, the same was true.

One day I was proud but the other quite not.

Things used to make me happy.

But sometimes I find it very confusing that their role has been overshadowed by the disguise I spiraled into.

Am I subsequently happy? That will be the question of what the future holds.
