The line graphs show changes in the prison population of a particular European country at ten-year intervals from 1911 to 2001. In general, there were significantly more men imprisoned than women in this country. While the number of male prisoners continued to rise over the study period, the reverse was true* for women. 

In the first 60 years, the number of male prisoners was rather stable. Starting at 25,000, the figure dipped to approximately 22,500 in 1921, before experiencing a slight increase and stabilizing near its initial level for the remainder of the period. In 1991, the increase became more pronounced, and by 2000, the number of male prisoners had surged to staggering 35,000.

In stark contrast, females exhibited a downward trend with fluctuations. For example, the first interval experienced a steep drop from 4,500 to 3,500, after which the numbers remained stable for the next two decades. From 1941 onward, the figure declined once more, reaching a low of 2,000. It recovered to 3,000 by 1971 but then dropped again to 1,000 by 2000.*

While some say music is a mere source of relaxation, I believe it is multifaceted and can serve as a source of motivation and cultural identity.

There is no denying that music can be an unmatched tool to relax. Many people use music to unwind after a stressful day, during weekends, or when they want to sleep. Slow-paced, soft music is especially helpful in such cases, lowering stress levels and promoting a sense of peace. Therefore, many people perceive music as an anti-stress tool.

However, I believe the impact of music goes well beyond just relaxation. People tend to listen to music to energize themselves while working, studying and training. Fast tempos are usually associated with increased production of adrenaline, a type of hormone that improves productivity and mood in general. This in turn motivates them to push boundaries and to find courage to take up new adventures.

Another important role of music is in culture. Music is deeply embedded in traditions, stories and anthems that have been passed down generation by generation. For example, in Uzbekistan, on a national holiday known as "Nawruz," it is hard to imagine all the traditions being done without poems and beats of a national instrument called "doira." This practice brings people together, reinforcing shared identities and values. This cultural significance of music demonstrates that its function extends far beyond personal relaxation.

In conclusion, although music actually can help people relax, I claim it is not music’s primary function as it can energize people in many situations and can shape and preserve cultural identity.

The table compares what percentage of expenditure went for three main categories in four Asian countries in 2008. Overall, spending habits of consumers from all four countries exhibited that they expended the most on fast food/drinks, while leisure activities and education were ignored. Additionally, the figure for China showed higher figures for spending on fast food/drinks and shoes and watches than its counterparts.

Regarding the bigger numbers first, outlay on fast food/drinks was considerably higher compared to the other two categories. Almost one-third of expenditure in China was dedicated to this category, distantly followed by Japan with 16.36% and Thailand with 16.36%. Moreover, Vietnamese people spent the least percentage of their expenditure on food and drinks, at 15.77%.

Turning to the categories where the proportions were smaller, in the shoes and watches category, China still led the countries with a staggering 16.23% and others followed with negligible percentages, all below 6%. However, this pattern changed for leisure activities and education, with Vietnam and Thailand making almost identical numbers, each comprising around 3.2%. China and Japan accounted for lower percentages, with the respective figures standing at 2.21 % and 1.98%.
