We have a school with 1000 students who all dream of becoming ‘Super Students,’ which is kind of like being an IAS officer after passing the UPSC exam. Now, out of these 1000 students, only one student truly has the special quality that makes them a ‘Super Student.’

The school has a very special test to figure out who this ‘Super Student’ is. The test works super well most of the time. If the real ‘Super Student’ takes the test, it will almost always say “Yes! You’ve got the super quality!” But, this test can sometimes get it wrong. If students who don’t really have the super quality take the test, 2 out of every 1000 times the test will make a mistake and say “Yes!” to them too.

So, let’s say the test day comes, and after everyone takes it, you find out that the test says one of the students has the super quality. You might get really excited and think they must be the true ‘Super Student.’ But remember, sometimes the test gets it wrong with students who are not super.
This means that even if a student gets a “Yes!” from the test, there’s actually just a chance — like if you toss a coin three times and it lands on heads every time — that they really are the ‘Super Student.’ The test might have made one of those rare mistakes. So, the “Yes!” result is like getting heads three times in a row — it can happen, but it’s not something that you’d bet all your pocket money on without thinking twice.

Same is the case with above problem, someone getting detected as ill, might be because of one of the two cases.

I hope the concept is a little clear now. Even if it isn't, dont worry. We'll be uploading more such UPSC PYQs to help you master CSAT @acadsCSE

This wasn't expected!

In 2023, many deserving and hardworking candidates failed to get a chance to appear in Mains 2023 due to an illogical and overly difficult CSAT paper.

A lot of protests were organized, and many representations were sent to UPSC to request that UPSC make a logical CSAT paper.

This year we were expecting UPSC to go a little lenient in CSAT. However, nothing seemed to have worked.

Last year's Engineering Service exam was conducted before Prelims, and Prelims' difficulty level usually follows the difficulty level of ESE. We just analysed this year ESE paper. Going by the trend of previous years, we can expect a more difficult CSAT than last year. We sincerely hope this doesn't happen. But, when it happens, we want our learners to be ready for this.

We, at Acads, never planned to divert our resources from core subjects to CSAT. But, when the necessity arises, we won't shy away from taking the Bull by its horns.

The first step in this initiative is arming you with techniques to solve ESE paper in the most efficient manner, in Acads way. We won't be monetizing our CSAT 2024 initiatives and it will be available in @acadsCSE for free. But, what we need from our learners is their willingness to help their fellow aspirants in being prepared for the CSAT.

Let's all try to ensure no deserving candidate fails to get an opportunity to write mains due to CSAT.

Let the sky fall, let it crumble; we will stand tall and face it all together.

IG Flow!

IG Flow!

IG Flow lies at the core in all Intelligent guessing techniques. Though it might be tempting to just read the technique handout, watch the lectures and be done with it. Acads AI [Analytics division of Acads.com] strongly recommends against it.

E.g. Technique #20 may seem simple and easy to apply. On deeper analysis, you will find how it differs from technique #13. While technique number 13 has a success ratio (SR) of ~100%, the same can’t be said about T#20.

So, keep your eyes focussed, ears open, mind active while learning IG techniques.

Definitely attempt all training questions while watching the lecture and go for test question when you are going for the final revision in the last week.
