According to known reports, the company has been in development since 2018, but in 2020 the project was frozen, and Apple's focus shifted to the foldable iPad.

At the moment, work on the iPhone in the form factor "folding" continued, there are already at least two prototypes, but the imminent release of the device is hindered by Apple's perfectionism: the company seeks to make a device whose thickness in the folded state would be no greater than that of a conventional iPhone, and its flexible display would not have any creases at all. So far, technology does not allow to achieve such results.
