🎶 Musicals lovers alert!

If you still haven’t watched The Wicked, it’s about time you did. Not just for the plot itself, but for the sake of learning some fancy vocabulary. Some of our favourites:

CLANDESTINELY (adv) — in a way that is planned or done in secret, especially when something is not officially allowed.

– The refugees entered the country clandestinely, on foot by mountain paths.
PERIL (n) — exposure to the risk of being injured, destroyed, or lost.

– People are unaware of the peril the miners face each day.
HOI POLLOI — masses (1); the elite (2). Frankly, these two meanings are contradictory, which one might find confusifying. The first one is much more common, however in the movie “hoi polloi” is used in the second sense as it refers to the citizens of the capital of Oz.

You can also have extra fun while watching by noticing how common words are replaced by the made up words from the ozian dialect.
