Dear Australian people ,

Dear Australian people ,

Free speech is under attack in Australia, and you have the power to stop it. The so-called "Combatting Misinformation & Disinformation Bill" is before the Senate, but let's call it what it really is: the "Online Censorship" Bill. This legislation would allow the government to silence political views they don’t like, and we cannot let this happen without a fight.

The Senate Standing Committee on Environment and Communications is holding an inquiry into this "Online Censorship" Bill, and you can make your voice heard by making a personal submission to the committee. Submissions close on 30 September 2024, so time is short.

How to submit your views:

Upload your submission via the Senate's inquiry webpage by clicking the "Upload Submission" button. Click here to visit the inquiry page

Email your submission directly to the committee at: [email protected].

Key Arguments to Make:

In your submission, highlight these points:

Government Overreach: The Bill gives the government unprecedented power to control what is said online. This sets a dangerous precedent for future censorship.

Threat to Free Speech: Unelected bureaucrats should not have the power to decide what constitutes "misinformation"—this is an attack on free speech and the right to challenge government narratives.

Undermining Democracy: Open debate and dissent are critical to a healthy democracy. This Bill stifles public discourse and erodes our democratic freedoms.

Submission Rules to Follow:

To ensure your submission is accepted, remember:

Be respectful and avoid profanity, abuse, or defamation.
Focus on clear, concise points.
Keep your submission relevant to the Bill and avoid off-topic comments.
If your submission is accepted, it may be published on the internet, including your name, and can be searched for. Your contact details will not be published. Once your submission is published, you cannot withdraw or alter it. If you want to add something later, you can submit a supplementary submission.

You may also ask the committee to keep your submission confidential. If you wish to do this, clearly mark "Confidential" on the front and provide a reason for your request. Your submission will only be seen by the committee and secretariat. However, the committee has the authority to publish any submission and will notify you if they intend to publish something you’ve asked to keep confidential.

If your submission is critical of another person or organisation, the committee may write to them to ask for a response.

Further Information:

For more details about the inquiry and how to make your submission, visit the Senate inquiry webpage: Senate Inquiry.

Deadline:

Submissions close on 30 September 2024. Don’t miss this chance to take a stand against the "Online Censorship" Bill and protect free speech in Australia!

Make your submission today and join the fight to protect our most fundamental freedom.

Thank you for your commitment to free speech,

Brian Marlow and the team at CitizenGO
