This Evening I Noticed...I looked out the dining room slider to check to see how the grass looked in the back yard and saw 2 birds in the grass. What was a bit peculiar is that they didn’t seem to be moving. They were a bit aways from where I was; They appeared to be owlets. I went to the kitchen where I might see them better and went back to the dining room and could tell by the eyes that they were. I pointed them out to my husband and he said they’ve been flying around outside at night. He then said there was another one now in the yard. I looked and the owlet had his head turned completely around so that I could see its features. Some time ago, there has been and owlet standing on one of the paddles of the ceiling fan on our patio. I recalled how they might be small now however when they’re full-grown, they can grab small animals for prey.

I asked Big Kitty if he wanted to go outside -- No, no. The front yard, not the back where the owls were but the front enclosed area where we like to hang out. He made his Maine Coon cat noises in excitement as he hurried to the front door and out as I opened it. I stepped out and could feel the heat. Heat’s like a furnace. Why Big Kitty with his super long cat fur likes to be out in this, is almost beyond me though it’s the highlight of my cats’ day being out here after the sun goes down. Lil’ Bit isn’t out here yet but then we just had the vacuum and then the steam-cleaner on to clean the laundry room floor and the short hallway floor to the garage. Lil should be out soon.

Big appears to be keeping his eye on something underneath the bench diagonally across from me. I hear birds in the near distance and I’m reminded of the roadrunner I saw yesterday as I was walking. Contrary to the cartoon of yore, roadrunners are much smaller with long plumage at their rear end and a long pointy beak which I’m sure could do some real damage. They’re said to be mean birds.

I hear the door behind me creak a tiny bit making me wonder whether Lil is about to come out. I see him as I turn my head. He opens the heavy door by himself though of course it’s not closed all the way. Even though the a/c is on in the house, we leave the door slightly ajar when we’re out here so the “guys” can get in and out. Lil is now lying on the walkway staring out the front gate and that reminds me of a few summers ago when Big was staring out the gate for some time. When my husband got up to look to see what had his attention, he saw it was a rattlesnake which can be seen in my Telegram profile pics. Yep, we have all sorts of wildlife here and that rattlesnake wasn’t the first I’ve seen.

I just turned the outside lights on to this area; This is a low-light city and without the lights on to this area, I can’t see the cats. It’s bad enough a lot of times not being able to see them with the light on as they often blend in to their surroundings, Lil with the gravel, Big with the walls. The shaded areas also make it difficult to see them at night.

It’s so quiet here, the ringing in my ear being the loudest sound.
