Shaykh Muqbil b. Hādī al-Wādiʿī رحمه الله said:

“A student of knowledge must be patient, even if matters and problems accumulate upon him, and he feels tightness in his chest.

He may even push himself with memorisation and dedication to seeking knowledge to the extent that he feels hardness in his heart.

This should not deter him, for Shayṭān does not want good for you; he wants to turn you away from seeking knowledge.

This is because seeking knowledge in this time is the greatest fortress, by the permission of Allah the Exalted, that protects you from trials.”

The Shaykh: “You have only answered half of my question.”

Questioner: “Yes, how so?”

The Shaykh: “I was saying do you have anyone to drop you off, otherwise I am ready if you do not?”

Questioner: “No, no, I can get there, In shaa Allah, al-ikhwah (the brothers) will drop me, bi-idhnillah (by the permission of Allah).”

The Shaykh: “Even though your answer is more complete than the last one you gave you still have not answered me fully.”

Questioner: “There are some brothers who study with As-Shaykh Ali who will drop me to al-matar (the airport).”

The Shaykh: “Ya'ni, did they say that to you?”

Questioner: “Yes.”

The Shaykh: “And they promised you?”

Questioner: “Ya'ni, they did not confirm it fully but on the basis that I sort it out with them tomorrow.”

The Shaykh: “Tayyib, I am saying for sure that if you are not able to sort it out I am ready (at your service).”

Questioner: “May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.”

The Shaykh: “I try to get closer to Allah azza wa-jal by being at the service of students of knowledge like yourself.”

Questioner: “Jazak Allahu khayran wa Baarak Allahu fikum!”

The Shaykh: “And may He bless you too.”

Questioner: “If something happens and they cannot drop me I will contact you In Shaa Allah.”

The Shaykh: “Yes good, do it.”

Questioner: “Jazaakum Allahu khayran.”

The Shaykh: “Ahlan wa sahlan.”

Questioner: “as-salaam alaykum.”
