**The Germano-Celtic Scots**

The Germano-Celtic Scots

The Scots (Scots: Scots fowk; Scottish Gaelic: Albannaich), are a folk from the northern part of Britain. Emerging from the early Middle Ages from two Celtic peoples, the Picts & Gaels, founded the Kingdom of Scotland (or Alba) in the 800s. In the following two centuries, the (Celtic) Cumbrian kingdom of Strathclyde (Welsh: Ystrad Clud) & the Germanic Anglcynn kingdom of Northumbria became part of Scotland. By the 1100s, small numbers of Normans began to settle the Lowlands. In the 1200s, the Norse-Gaels of the Hebrides & Isle of Man became part of Scotland (collectively known as (Scots: Northern Isles; Scottish Gaelic: Na h-Eileanan a Tuath; Old Norse: Norðreyjar)). The 1400s saw Norse settlers from the Northern Isles of Shetland and Orkney enter the Scottish Union (Scots: Northern Isles; Scottish Gaelic: Na h-Eileanan a Tuath; Old Norse: Norðreyjar). On a whole, the Scots are a Germanic & Celtic folk, with much of the lowland Scots being predominantly Germanic.

O'er Mithgarth Hugin and Munin both
Each day set forth to fly;
For Hugin I fear lest he come not home,
But for Munin my care is more
