?? #UnitedStates: The perpetrator of the New Orleans attack has been identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a US-born Army veteran from Texas. An ISIS flag was attached to the back of the truck at the time of the attack, with the FBI currently investigating Jabbar’s ties to the group. The FBI has now stated that they do not believe Jabber was “solely responsible” for the attack.

?? #UnitedStates: At least 10 have been killed with 35 injured after a man rammed his car into a crowd of partygoers in New Orleans. The suspect has since been killed in a shootout with police, with both explosives and firearms recovered from the scene. Little information has been released about the suspect or his motives thus far, but the attack is being investigated as an act of terrorism.

?? #Somalia: The UN Security Council has authorized a new peacekeeping mission in Somalia led by the African Union. The force, named AUSSOM, will replace the current ATMIS mission in 2025. AUSSOM is likely to include troops from #Egypt, #Djbouti, #Uganda, and #Kenya.

?? #Nigeria: At least 10 civilians were killed yesterday after Nigerian fighter jets mistakenly bombed villages in Sokoto state. The jets were reportedly attempting to strike armed groups in the area, hitting targets in the villages of Gidan Sama and Rintuwa.

#RedSea: The #UnitedStates military shot down two of its own Navy pilots over the Red Sea today in an “apparent case of friendly fire”. Both pilots survived the incident, ejecting from the plane after it was hit. The plane, identified as an F/A-18 Super Hornet, was reportedly hit by the missile cruiser USS Gettysburg.
While the cause of the friendly fire is unknown, incoming drone and missile fire from #Yemen’s Houthis in the region often leaves ships with seconds to react, possibly causing the mistake.
