Recently, there was news that Google is discontinuing the ping functionality for sitemaps after 6 months:

I decided to check if it's still working since the last time I used ping was many years ago. The format of the request is as follows:

https://www.google.com/ping?sitemap=https://example.com/sitemap.xml

Here's what I did:

1)I created a separate sitemap and added 3 new URLs to it.
2)I pinged it on June 27th.
3)I analyzed the server logs to see when Google would access the new URLs.
After pinging, Google immediately scanned the sitemap, as seen in the logs. It then scanned it again after 6 minutes from a different IP. And then again after 15 minutes.

After that, 2.5 weeks passed, and Google didn't make any new requests. It didn't scan the new pages from the sitemap.

That's the whole experiment.

1.Go to the "Engagement" section in your GA4 property.
2.Click on "Pages and screens" to access the corresponding report..Add "Session source / medium" as a secondary dimension. This will provide additional information about the source and medium of the session.
3.Enter "raterhub.com" into the filter field to filter the data specifically for visits from Google raters.
