In many parts of the world, countries import a large amount of food from abroad.
Is it a positive or negative development?
In recent years, importing food from different parts of the world has become increasingly popular. Although there are a few risks of importing food items from abroad, I am adamant that this is a change to the positive side.
On the one hand, some people may claim that imported food from abroad can have potential negative impact on local farmers and agricultural industries. When imported food is available, customers may choose these items over locally-produced ones, which can lead to a decline in demand for domestic agricultural products. This may eventually result in decreased revenue and employment opportunities for local farmers. Moreover, it can also be claimed that the process of importing food may include risks of damaging the products. For example, a minor mistake in storage temperature may lead to the contamination of imported sea foods items, vegetables and fruits. As a result, customers may obtain poor quality products and suffer from food poisoning after consumption.
However, it is important to recognize that importing food from abroad also has its benefits and does not necessarily lead to the demise of local agricultural industries. In many cases, imported food items tend to supplement rather than replace locally manufactured goods, which provides consumers with a wider variety of choices. Take Uzbekistan, a country with a small number of water bodies. Although different sea creatures such as squids and crabs are imported for food, this importation does not disturb the earnings of local fishers who can catch only a limited variety of fish species in this country. In other words, importing certain foods from abroad allows countries to access products that are not available domestically or to buy product at a more affordable price due to healthy competition between local and imported products.
It is also essential to note that importing food from abroad does not include the risk of losing food due to extreme weather conditions. Although most countries have their own land to yield their own food, it is still possible that a harsh weather can destroy crops. A case in point can be frequent snows that fall in spring months in Uzbekistan. Recently, a snow in spring caused the reduction in fruits during the harvesting season, thereby making the fruit prices skyrocket for the whole year. In such situations, importing food from other counties can stabilize the prices and make them affordable for the general public.
In conclusion, I believe that importing food items from abroad should be validated, despite concerns regarding local revenue and risks of damage of the products. This trend encourages diversification of food, more affordable prices and availability of out-of-season products in the market.

In many societies, there is a growing emphasis on individualism, with people prioritizing their own goals and desires over collective interests.
Is it a positive or negative development?
It is believed that contemporary people have become more prone to putting their own goals and interests first, thereby rendering collective efforts a second priority. Although individualism can be beneficial for people to some extent, I am adamant that this is a change to the negative side.
On the one hand, it is true that prioritizing own goals and achieving them individually can be validated for several reasons. Firstly, this selfish attitude helps people allocate considerable time to personal growth. When people set a goal and work on it alone, they can focus on improving their own weaknesses to accomplish it, instead of improving other people’s skills. This eventually leads them to achieve their goals sooner. Moreover, selfishness pertains individual autonomy. Prioritizing own goals and aspirations makes people assert their own motives without being overly influenced by societal norms and expectations.
However, individualism comes with a number of personal and social drawbacks. First and foremost, some people may prioritize their interests at the expense of others, which may exacerbate existing inequalities and injustices within society. This can lead to disparities in access to resources, opportunities, and basic rights, perpetuating cycles of poverty and marginalization. Besides this, it is important to consider that some goals cannot be achieved unless collective efforts are prioritized. Take football, a team sports where each member has to avoid performing individually. In such sports, a team cannot win the World Cup, the biggest trophy in the sport, without team spirit and collective trials.
In the meantime, achieving goals together with others is more secure for all people. Being a team player offers opportunities for the growth of all members. For example, even less skillful people can catch up with experienced individuals through feedback, mentorship and guidance. This can be beneficial not only for learners but also for those who teach skills to others. In other words, individuals can hone leadership skills by taking on roles such as team leader, project manager or mentor.
In conclusion, I believe that it is better to set goals and desires considering common benefits rather than only individual advantages as this ensures positive outcomes for individuals and society. Therefore, I deem current trend of prioritizing self-centered attitude as negative.
