THE MAJORITY OF SINNERS RELY ON THE MERCY OF ALLAH

You should know that the majority of wrong-doers and sinners rely on the Mercy, the Forgiveness and the Generosity of Allah, while at the same time, neglecting and overlooking His severe punishment.

This biased understanding occurred to them because they wrongly assumed the Mercy of Allah is like tenderness.

This [wrong] conclusion was deduced because they likened the Mercy of Allah to the mercy of the creation, as they think it is similar to how when a person witnesses his enemy being tortured he condoles with him and hence his heart will be soft toward him. While, in fact, the Mercy of Allah is absolutely not of this kind.As for he who seeks forgiveness while still insisting on committing sins, then indeed, he is like a stubborn person ignoring all the warnings.

Delaying repentance?

The example of someone who delays [repenting] is like someone who wants to uproot a tree, but finds that it’s very strong and will only be uprooted with difficulty.

So he said: I will delay its uprooting for one year, then I will come to uproot it.

But he doesn’t know the longer the tree lives, the more firmly rooted it’ll be, and that the older he is, the weaker he’ll be.

Allah says in surah al-Qiyamah [75]:

[ بَلْ يُرِيدُ الْإِنسَانُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ]

"But man wants to continue in sin."

In part of his explanation of this ayah, Imam al-Baghawi wrote:

[وقال سعيد بن جبير : " ليفجر أمامه " يقدم على الذنب ويؤخر التوبة ، فيقول : سوف أتوب ، سوف أعمل حتى يأتيه الموت على شر أحواله وأسوأ أعماله. ]

Sa'eed ibn Jubayr said:

"... to continue in sin"

Means that he prefers to sin and put off repenting, so he says, "I will repent later, I will do good deeds later" until death comes to him while he is at his lowest point and his worst deeds.

we ask الله to save us from such an ending...

وَأُزۡلِفَتِ ٱلۡجَنَّةُ لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ غَيۡرَ بَعِيدٍ

And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqûn (the pious), not far off.

هَٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِيظٖ

(It will be said): This is what you were promised - (it is) for those oft-returning (to Allâh) in sincere repentance, and those who preserve their covenant with Allâh (by obeying Him in all what He has ordered, and worshipping none but Allâh Alone, i.e. follow Allâh’s religion - Islâmic Monotheism).

مَّنۡ خَشِيَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنَ بِٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَجَآءَ بِقَلۡبٖ مُّنِيبٍ

Who feared the Most Gracious (Allâh) in the Ghaib (Unseen) and brought a heart turned in repentance (to Him and absolutely free from each and every kind of polytheism).

ٱدۡخُلُوهَا بِسَلَٰمٖۖ ذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُلُودِ

Enter you therein in peace and security - this is a Day of eternal life!

لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ فِيهَا وَلَدَيۡنَا مَزِيدٞ

There they will have all that they desire - and We have more (for them, i.e. a glance at the All-Mighty, All-Majestic جل جلاله).

[Surah Qāf: 31 - 35]

Tawbah: 118

Qualities of a sincere repentance:

*Regretting the sin to the point that the earth felt straitened even though it was vast.

Soul feeling confined within.

Certainty that there is no refuge from Allah except with Him (by fleeing to Him)*.

Please read the story in the Tafsir of this ayah regarding the error and repentance of Ka'b bin Malik and the two with him  رضي الله عنهم, contemplate and follow their footsteps whenever you fall in to displeasing our Lord ♥
