#Ramadān | Sulaymān Ibn Mūsā reported Jābir Ibn ‘Abdillāh (رضي الله عنه) said:

“When you fast, then let your hearing, seeing, and tongue fast as well from lies and sins, and avoid harming your servants. Rather, you must have dignity and calmness on the day of your fasting. Do not make days you do not fast and days you fast as if they were the same.”

عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى قَالَ قَالَ جَابِرٌ رضي الله عنه إذَا صُمْتَ فَلْيَصُمْ سَمْعُكَ وَبَصَرُكَ وَلِسَانُكَ عَنِ الْكَذِبِ وَالْمَآثِمِ وَدَعْ أَذَى الْخَادِمِ وَلْيَكُنْ عَلَيْكَ وَقَارٌ وَسَكِينَةٌ يَوْمَ صِيَامِكَ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ يَوْمَ فِطْرِكَ وَيَوْمَ صِيَامِكَ سَوَاءً

Reflection

Q: Why do we only see the sin as bad, when others commit it?

A: Because we don’t know the thought process behind the sin when others commit it, so we only see the ugliness of the sin and not the struggle behind trying not to commit it. When it’s us who commit a sin, we can see both sides and give ourselves more excuses which we could never give others. We believe we will stop soon and Allah will forgive us because this is what we are planning to do, but we don’t think the same about others which makes it seem like they love that sin and accept it (sometimes it’s true), and that makes the person who commits the sin ugly in our eyes as well.

How dirty are your sins, when others commit them.

Ма бlеха хул-кх хьа къинош, уж кхыболча наха деча хана.

Fasting But Not Praying?

Shaykh Muḥammad Ṣāliḥ al-'Uthaymīn رحمه الله said: "From the bizarre affairs in our times is that from the people age those who are patient upon fasting and they have great reverence and regard for it, but they are not patient upon the obligatory prayers and they do not have this great reverence and regard for the prayers in their hearts as they have in it for fasting. So you find that he fasts Ramaḍān but he does not pray except during Ramaḍān and the following Ramaḍān. If he prays only during Ramaḍān this is no doubt a mistake in (his) thinking."
