? Erich Lepkowski.
Lepkowski became famous for “Lepkowski’s Prisonbreak”, which took place on 16 August 1944. During this raid on a POW camp, Lepkowski and his men went deep into territory held by French Partisans and Americans in order to rescue 130 of their fellow Fallschirmjäger troops. The raid was a big success. Lepkowski was an instant hero, and he was awarded the Knight’s Cross.
? SS Men against Steel.
Two Waffen-SS soldiers charging out to destroy a disabled Soviet BA-10 armored vehicle, the soldier in the center, Helmut Josef Wilhelm "Bubi" Burose (19 years old at the time), approaches the BA-10 and tries to destroy it with a hand grenade. And all of a sudden, a Soviet KV-2 tank appears through the smoke (to the right behind the smoke and dust cloud). The two SS soldiers try to flee from the 52-ton beast by lying on the ground to go unnoticed, but are eventually shot down, possibly by the KV-2's DT machine gun.
❗As you all know, I make the content for free out of my love and interest in WW2 history, so putting reactions (likes, hearts) keeps me motivated and its very appreciated, and thanks all for the support.
On this day, 79 years ago, Japan surrenders, bringing an end to WWII.
? Adolf Hitler receives Fritz Christen - 20.10.1941.
Christen was recorded as the first non-commissioned officer from the Totenkopf division to be awarded a Knight's Cross. The reason? In a battle on the eastern front on September 24, 1941, he single-handedly destroyed 13 Soviet tanks within 24 hours using a Pak 38 anti-tank gun, and by then he was only 20 years old!
Christen was captured by the Americans in Czechoslovakia in 1945, then the Americans sent him to the Soviets, where he was imprisoned in the Gulag for 10 years before being returned to Germany in 1955.
? Adolf Hitler receives Hubert Brinkforth(right) while Klaus Freiherr von Hardenberg (center), looks on with pride - 05.04.1941.
Brinkforth is best known for being the first Wehrmacht soldier to be awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Crosses. On May 27, 1940, during the Battle of France, Brinkforth managed to destroy nine British tanks near the Abbeville area using a PaK 36 anti-tank gun. Brinkforth would later die on the Eastern Front on June 5, 1942, during a Soviet artillery bombardment near Leningrad.
von Hardenberg died on November 3, 1942, in the Second Battle of El Alamein in Egypt.
