*📌*Task 1 tips for 7+:

1️⃣Don't overdo the introduction paraphrase.

Aim for 2-3 synonyms. Try using different sentence structures without replacing the words. Nouns => Verbs and vice versa. You can't impress the examiner with a good introduction, the job is simply not to fail it. Once you approach this part with such a mindset, you begin to save more time and make fewer mistakes.

2️⃣Paragraphing does matter a lot.

You can't pick and sort figures however you want. There has to some logic behind it.

3️⃣Be careful with numbers.

Don't turn your report into some sort of math exercise by showing calculations. Try to avoid any possible confusion with math. Just say the number or at least round it up/down.

4️⃣Comparisons are a must.

Aim for at least 4-5 sentences where you directly compare figures. You can make comparisons in two ways:

- compare A's figure with B's figure
- compare A's figures across different years

5️⃣Always describe changes.

Use adjectives and adverbs to describe changes. Be specific. Don't just say "increased".

6️⃣Read lots of samples.

Go get Pauline Cullen's "the key to Task 1". I myself have read it like 3-5 times, and know some of the quotes by heart.

7️⃣Share my posts with friends and fellow students. Don't be selfish!

For many school leavers, however, there is the irresistible attraction of the ‘gap year’, a time between school and university when they decide to experience something new, different or exciting. Many of these so-called ‘gappers’ go off travelling around the world, often supplementing their limited funds by taking on casual work, while others may do voluntary work in a village in a distant part of the world.

Many people are working longer hours. What are the reasons and effects?
These days, it is not difficult to see many people who work overtime, even on weekends. In my opinion, there are two main reasons of this situation and these would possibly lead to health and family problems as a result.

To start with the reasons of this trend, having excessive number of responsibilities at work is the main contributor of spending a lot of time at offices. Take managers as an example. To illustrate, in my country in most private companies, managers work long hours, because they have several responsibilities on their shoulders. Moreover, the main reason what encourages people to work overtime is the intention of earning more and more money. In most cities, people at supermarkets, cafes or restaurants work at nights, instead of sleeping to boost their income due to higher costs of living there.

Turning to the impacts of working long hours, I think issues related to overall well-being and family are more worrying. Firstly, as they work more than enough, they easily catch illnesses because of poor immune system. For example, the number of people who are suffering from stress-related illnesses, tiredness is increasing nowadays. In addition to this, most parents are allocating their most time outside and at workplaces. This will consequently lead to a lack of time they spend with their children at home. As a result, most children of those parents are going down to the path of the crime or developing bad habits due to a lack of parental aspiration.

In conclusion, while a huge number of responsibilities and willing of making more money are main causes of working overtime, in my opinion, the worrying results of this should not be ignored by those people.
