My beloved brothers and sisters,
I advise you all to take advantage of this blessed month of Ramaḍān. Do not waste a single moment. Delete all your social media; perhaps even leave channels and groups (join them afterwards). Delete your games. Avoid people as much as you can. Absolutely no distractions. Take advantage of every little moment. The Salaf would stop everything including studying and teaching during this month. Be cut-throat with your time.

This is a month of prayer, Qurān, ṣadaqah and jihād. This is all you obsess over. Put all your effort into this. You should be tired. You should be exhausted. You can take your break after you die or after Shawwāl… that’s what ‘Eīd is for!

Remember that fasting is not only avoiding from food, water and intimacy. Realize that from Fajr to Maghrib, you are in an act of worship. Would you backbite, lie and yell at people in Ṣalāh? Have the same respect for your fast. Perhaps avoiding the nullifiers of the fast is easy, then you should strive harder and avoid what doesn’t nullify. Even at night, become a Zāhid and avoid what is Ḥalāl, especially certain foods.

A final word of advice regarding the Imāms of Tarāwīḥ, to those who want to take care of them and lighten their burden:
I understand you mean well, but it would be best to avoid them. They are already stressed and on a tight schedule. Personally, I would appreciate if nobody gave me salām or even smiled at me. I just want to lead the prayer then leave. Every little interaction is a distraction in this month. If they have a family, you don’t have to invite them for Ifṭār. May Allāh reward you for your intentions.

Do not be a victim to the Du’ā of Jibrīl [with Muḥammad ﷺ saying Āmīn]. This is all I have to say.

May Allāh unite us in Jannah or Shawwāl.

Ibn Hibbān (رحمه الله) said:

❝Brothers are known in times of need, because everyone in times of prosperity are friends, and the most evil of brothers are those who abandon their brothers during misfortune and urgent need.❞

[Rawdat Al-‘Uqalā’]

The first command in the Qurān according to the order of surahs is the command of Tawḥīd,
“O People, worship your Lord” (2:21).

The first prohibition in the Qurān according to the Surahs in the well-known Muṣḥaf is the prohibition of Shirk,
“Do not attribute to Allāh lies, while you know” (2:22).

كان أول أمر في القرآن على حسب ترتيب السور هو الأمر بالتوحيد ﴿ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اعْبُدُوا رَبَّكُمُ ﴾. وأول نهي في القرآن على حسب ترتيب السور في المصحف المعروف هو النهي عن الشرك ﴿ فَلا تَجْعَلُوا لِلَّهِ أَنْدَاداً وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴾.

*Muhammad Ibn Sabih As-Samāk said:

لبئس الخلف خلف يشتمون السلف لواحد من السلف خير من ألف من الخلف.

The worst of the Khalaf (latecomers) are those who insult the Salaf (pious predeccesors), one of the Salaf (pious predeccesors) is better than a thousand Khalaf (latecomers).*كتاب شرح أصول اعتقاد أهل السنة والجماعة جزء 8 صفحة ١٥٤٧

Kissing is permissible while fasting

Shaykh Abu Aḥmad al-Ghazzāwī ash-Shāfi’ī explained to us:
Kissing is permissible while fasting, if there is no feeling (shahwah) attached with it. Obviously, I am talking about kissing your brothers or your friends. This is about your wife.

Abu Sidrah al-Ḥanbalī: If you kiss your brothers and there is feeling, this is a bigger problem, Shaykh.

Shaykh Abu Aḥmad and his students laughed.

The death of the actions and speech of a scholar is only the death of the hearts of his students.

A scholar is truly dead when his students don’t keep his work alive. If you love your teachers, spread their work.
