A significant part of their customers were new telecom startups funded by junk bond markets. They were called CLECs and had basically no revenue. That ended badly and demand collapsed once the capital markets were spooked.

In 2024 we have AI. Yet again chip manufacturers like $NVDA and others are benefiting from massive capex investment in a dream. Private Equity is providing a large part of the capital. AI has promise but no revenues to speak of yet.

The bet is pricing doesn’t collapse on projected numbers due to over investment and the time to revenues is fast for new companies.
